aFe Momentum GT intake details

aFe 51-74204 is the Momentum GT intake for Chevrolet Camaro SS 2013–2015 V8-6.2L with electric steering. One Pro DRY S seven-inch filter fits the XLPE window housing. A molded tube with resonance chamber and silicone bellows retain the original MAF and breather connections; original mounting inserts, grommets and two nuts are reused.

Key Features

  • One 21-91107 filter: 6.75 x 4.75-inch oval flange, 8.25 x 6.25-inch base, 7.25 x 5-inch top and 7-inch height.
  • Selected media: three-layer oil-free synthetic Pro DRY S.
  • Molded tube 05-74204B1 with resonance chamber and XLPE window housing 05-74204B2.
  • Silicone bellows coupling 05-01375 with two T-bolt clamps 03-50265.
  • Two M4 screws secure the transferred original MAF; exact manual specifies no screw length.
  • Optional urethane plug 05-00937 closes the housing auxiliary inlet.

Fitment

Current manufacturer pages and both exact linked 16-page manuals specify Camaro SS 2013–2015 V8-6.2L with electric steering. Both existing named SS year ranges remain unchanged. Some retailer listings broaden coverage to 2010–2015 or include ZL1; those positive claims conflict with the exact current electric-steering application and do not establish earlier hydraulic-steering or supercharged fitment. No earlier years, ZL1 or other trims are added. Confirm steering equipment, actual engine, sensor/breather connections and mounting layout.

What's Included

Quantity Manufacturer service part Component
1 21-91107 Selected filter; alternate media row is not a second filter
1 05-74204B1 Molded tube with resonance chamber
1 05-74204B2 XLPE window housing
1 05-01375 Silicone bellows coupling
2 03-50265 T-bolt coupling clamps
2 03-50491 M4 MAF screws; length unspecified
1 05-00937 Optional auxiliary-inlet urethane plug

Transfer the two metal inserts and their grommets from the original airbox into the new housing. The housing sits over two original mounting studs and its lower pin must pass completely through the bottom rubber grommet; reuse the two saved original nuts. This is different from simply leaving all mounts on chassis tabs in later Camaro kits. A filter clamp is illustrated without a separate BOM code. No separate snap-in scoop, billet vent fitting, sound-hose adapter, MAF extension, coolant hose, radiator-air-outlet procedure, spacers, sealant or threadlocker is listed in this exact kit. The supplied optional plug closes the auxiliary inlet. Service supplies are separate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many filters are supplied for 51-74204?

One 21-91107 Pro DRY S seven-inch filter; the alternate media row is not another supplied filter.

Does the dry filter need oil?

No. D uses three-layer oil-free synthetic media; R uses five-layer pre-oiled cotton gauze.

Does this apply to every 2010–2015 Camaro?

No. Current exact manufacturer documents specify 2013–2015 SS with electric steering. Broader retailer claims are qualified and no earlier or ZL1 scope is added.

Which original mounting parts transfer?

The two metal inserts and grommets transfer into the new housing. Reuse the two original nuts and seat the lower pin completely through the bottom rubber grommet.

Is a separate inlet scoop supplied?

No separate scoop appears in this exact BOM. Do not import the later Camaro snap-in scoop procedure.

Does the engine cover go back on?

Yes. Restore it in reverse order after reconnecting the MAF and breather tube, including the oil-cap handling.

Are the linked D charts independent dry-media tests?

No. Both selected pages link byte-identical R flow and dyno images; their media limitation is explicit.

What torque and inspection interval apply?

No numeric torque is specified. Check bolts, clamps and connectors after 200 miles.

Installation Instructions

Verify aFe 51-74204. Work on a cool engine. Remove the oil cap and engine cover, then reinstall the oil cap. Disconnect the breather tube and MAF, loosen the original throttle-body and airbox clamps with an 8mm nut driver and remove the original intake tube. Remove and save the two airbox nuts with a 10mm deep socket and lift the airbox from its mounts. Install the optional auxiliary-inlet plug if desired. Seat the selected filter and its clamp in the new housing, leaving that clamp loose. Transfer the two original metal inserts and grommets into the new housing. Position the housing over the original mounting studs and push its bottom pin completely through the bottom rubber grommet; reinstall the two saved original nuts. Transfer the MAF with T20 and two supplied M4 screws without overtightening. Fit the silicone coupling and one supplied T-bolt clamp at the throttle body; place the second clamp on the other end without tightening. Insert the tube into the filter and then into the coupling, align it and tighten all clamps. Reconnect MAF and breather tube. Restore the engine cover in reverse order with the oil-cap handling and check security and clearance. Recheck bolts, clamps and connectors after 200 miles. No numeric torque or battery-disconnection step is specified.

Important Disclosures

Both pages advertise 19-percent airflow and 27 hp/24 lb-ft gains. Their linked flow images are byte-identical and R-labeled, showing 274 versus stock 230 CFM at 1.5 inches H2O, approximately 19.1 percent; this is not a 7-inch-H2O test or a separately labeled dry-media result. Their linked dyno images are also byte-identical R-version comparisons on a 2015 Camaro SS. Near marked 5,881 rpm, power 402.85 versus 375.17 hp differs by 27.68 hp and torque 359.75 versus 335.03 lb-ft differs by 24.72 lb-ft. Independent maxima are 402.86 versus 376.39 hp, a 26.47 hp difference, and 379.45 versus 373.01 lb-ft, a 6.44 lb-ft difference. The January 24 and February 2, 2017 runs state OE exhaust, fourth gear, manual transmission, stock wheels and regular fan. Baseline conditions are 58.08°F/29.33 in-Hg/38% humidity with SAE 0.98; intake conditions are 71.61°F/29.40 in-Hg/18% with SAE 0.99. The D page links those R test images, so an independent selected dry-media flow or dyno result is not certified. Point comparisons and independent peak differences are distinct and not guaranteed gains. Current product pages state this intake is not CARB exempt and unavailable for California purchase or California-registered vehicles. The older manual uses California race-vehicle wording and prohibits public-road use there and in states adopting California emissions rules; that older wording does not establish current exemption or dealer sale permission.
