Are both media filters supplied?No. This selection uses one 21-90113 Pro DRY S filter. The shared manual depicts the other media as an alternative selection.
Which way must the filter face?Snap the flange through the housing opening and rotate the filter so its wider side faces upward, as illustrated.
When is the brass fitting used instead of the plug?Use the 1/8-NPT fitting for a vehicle with the original CCV hose, and the plug when that hose is absent. The manual expects a small gap between the NPT hex and tube; do not assume it must bottom flush.
How is the throttle-body bellows seated?Engage its internal bead in the throttle-body groove. Once seated and able to rotate easily, secure the throttle-body-side clamp at its locating bead; leave the open-end clamp loose until final tube alignment.
What happens to the steering reservoir if it blocks removal?Retain its two factory nuts, move the reservoir forward as instructed and release the bracket air line. Restore the reservoir to its bracket with those nuts and reseat the original air line after tube installation.
Does a later 328i badge establish compatibility?No. Confirm the N52 3.0L non-turbo engine, correct E-series chassis and actual connections. The original broad year rows are preserved with these qualifications; turbo F-series fitment is not inferred.
What check interval and test limitations apply?Check bolts, clamps and connectors after 100-200 miles. No numeric torque or battery-disconnection step is given. Bench airflow differs by media; dyno point gains differ from peak-to-peak legend differences and used different-date runs.
Verify aFe 54-13053D. Read the complete illustrated manual and work on a cool engine. Remove and retain the two housing bolts, disconnect the MAF harness, loosen the airbox clamp and remove the housing from the factory duct. Where steering equipment sits above the intake tube, retain both reservoir nuts, detach the bracket air line and carefully move the reservoir forward for clearance. Release the throttle-body clamp and any original CCV hose, then remove the original tube. Transfer the MAF using the supplied M4 screws. Fit the brass CCV fitting or plug as appropriate, retaining the illustrated small NPT-hex gap. Remove the selected filter clamp, snap the filter flange through the new housing, rotate the WIDER SIDE UP and refit the clamp loosely. Install top trim and transfer both original grommets and metal sleeves. Seat the bellows internal bead into the throttle-body groove; once seated and able to rotate easily, tighten the throttle-body-side clamp, keeping the other end loose. Install the tube into the bellows, reconnect any CCV hose and MAF harness. Restore the steering reservoir with both original nuts and reseat its bracket air line where applicable. Lower the filter/housing assembly into place, connect tube to filter and housing to original front duct, then secure with both original bolts and tighten remaining clamps. Recheck bolts, clamps and connectors after 100-200 miles. This manual gives no battery-disconnection step or numeric torque.
