The Bilstein 24-336536 is a B6 4600 series monotube front shock absorber engineered as a direct OE replacement for the 2023-2026 Chevrolet Colorado in WT, LT, and Z71 trims. Unlike the twin-tube design found in factory shocks, the 24-336536 uses a 46mm monotube piston that delivers more consistent damping force across variable terrain, whether you are commuting daily or pushing the Z71 on unpaved roads. Bilstein designed the 24-336536 to bolt in at stock ride height with no modifications required, making it one of the cleanest performance-oriented upgrades available for the fifth-generation Colorado platform.

Key Features

  • B6 4600 Series: Bilstein's OE-upgrade line developed for trucks and SUVs running factory ride height
  • Monotube design: Single-tube construction with a 46mm piston provides superior heat dissipation and consistent damping compared to OEM twin-tube shocks
  • Direct OE replacement: The 24-336536 uses factory mounting points with no drilling, cutting, or adapters needed
  • Stock ride height compatible: Designed exclusively for vehicles at factory height; not intended for lifted applications
  • Front position: Fits the driver-side and passenger-side front shock location on 2023-2026 Chevrolet Colorado WT, LT, and Z71
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty: Backed by Bilstein's warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the vehicle
  • Prop 65 compliant labeling: Includes California Proposition 65 warning as required
  • Precision gas pressure: Self-adjusting, velocity-sensitive valving reacts to road conditions in real time

Installation Instructions

These steps are provided as a general guide. Always consult your vehicle's service manual and follow all safety procedures. Professional installation is recommended if you are not comfortable with suspension work.

  • Step 1: Gather tools: You will need a floor jack, jack stands, torque wrench, breaker bar, 18mm and 21mm sockets, pry bar, and penetrating oil.
  • Step 2: Safety first: Park on a flat, level surface. Set the parking brake and chock the rear wheels before lifting the vehicle.
  • Step 3: Lift and support: Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack placed under the frame. Set jack stands under the frame rails. Never work under a vehicle supported only by a floor jack.
  • Step 4: Remove the wheel: Remove the front wheel and tire assembly to gain clear access to the shock absorber mounting points.
  • Step 5: Support the lower control arm: Place a floor jack under the lower control arm to relieve tension on the shock absorber before loosening any fasteners.
  • Step 6: Remove the lower mounting bolt: Spray penetrating oil on the lower shock mounting bolt if corroded. Remove the lower mounting bolt and nut securing the shock absorber to the lower control arm or knuckle bracket.
  • Step 7: Remove the upper mount nut: Access the upper shock mount from the engine bay or through the wheel well depending on your Colorado's configuration. Remove the upper mount nut.
  • Step 8: Extract the old shock: Carefully lower the floor jack supporting the control arm just enough to extract the OEM shock absorber from its mounting points. Do not overextend the CV axle.
  • Step 9: Position the Bilstein 24-336536: Insert the new 24-336536 shock into the upper mount first, then align the lower mount. Hand-tighten the upper nut to hold it in place temporarily.
  • Step 10: Reinstall the wheel: Reinstall the wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle to the ground so it rests at full ride height.
  • Step 11: Torque fasteners at ride height: With the vehicle sitting at full ride height (tires on the ground, full weight loaded), torque the upper mount nut to 37 ft-lbs and the lower mounting bolt to 74 ft-lbs. Tightening at ride height is critical to prevent premature bushing wear caused by improper preload.
  • Step 12: Repeat for the other side: Repeat all steps for the opposite front shock absorber. Always replace front shocks in axle pairs for balanced handling.
  • Step 13: Test drive and inspect: Drive the vehicle at low speed and listen for unusual noises. Recheck all fastener torques after the first 50 miles of driving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Bilstein 24-336536 fit the Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss?
No. The 24-336536 is not designed for the Trail Boss trim. The Trail Boss uses a different front suspension geometry and factory lift configuration that requires a different shock specification. This part fits the Colorado WT, LT, and Z71 trims only, at stock ride height.

Does this shock fit the GMC Canyon?
No. Despite sharing a platform, the GMC Canyon uses different shock absorber fitments. The Bilstein 24-336536 is calibrated specifically for the Chevrolet Colorado WT, LT, and Z71 and will not correctly index on Canyon mounting points. Always verify fitment by make, model, and trim before purchasing.

Will the 24-336536 work on a lifted Colorado?
No. The B6 4600 series is engineered for stock, OE ride height only. Installing this shock on a lifted Colorado risks binding, accelerated wear, and potential failure because the shock travel and valving are calibrated for the factory suspension geometry. If your truck is lifted, a different part number designed for your lift height is required.

What is the difference between the Bilstein B6 and B4 series?
The B4 series is a direct OE replacement that matches factory damping characteristics as closely as possible. The B6 4600 series, which includes the 24-336536, is an OE upgrade line that uses a monotube design with more aggressive valving to deliver improved handling and control while still maintaining compatibility with the factory suspension setup and ride height. The B6 is the better choice when you want a noticeable improvement over stock performance without modifying the truck.

What is the advantage of a monotube shock over a twin-tube shock?
A monotube shock like the Bilstein 24-336536 houses the piston and working fluid in a single tube. This means the gas charge and oil are separated by a floating piston, which prevents aeration and maintains consistent damping force even during extended hard use. OEM twin-tube shocks can experience fade and temporary loss of damping performance when heat causes the oil and gas to mix. The monotube construction of the B6 4600 makes the 24-336536 more resistant to fade and more consistent under repeated compression cycles.

What does the Limited Lifetime Warranty cover?
Bilstein's Limited Lifetime Warranty covers the 24-336536 against defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the vehicle on which it is originally installed. Coverage applies to the original purchaser. The warranty does not cover damage resulting from improper installation, misuse, installation on a vehicle outside the specified fitment, or installation with a lift kit. This warranty is provided in accordance with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which governs written warranties on consumer products sold in the United States.

Is the Bilstein 24-336536 suitable for daily street driving or off-road use?
Both. The B6 4600 series is designed to handle the full range of conditions a Colorado owner encounters: daily highway commuting, suburban driving, and moderate off-road use on the Z71's capable suspension platform. The monotube design's resistance to fade means performance remains consistent whether you are on pavement or a dirt road. It is not intended for extreme rock crawling or competition off-road applications.

How difficult is it to install this shock absorber?
For someone comfortable with basic suspension work, the 24-336536 is a straightforward bolt-on replacement. The most important requirement is access to a torque wrench and the ability to torque the fasteners at ride height (vehicle on the ground). If you are not familiar with suspension component replacement, professional installation is recommended. Most shops familiar with Colorado suspension work can complete the front shock replacement in under two hours.
