FAQ

What is the FTS7236?

The FTS7236 is a Fabtech front performance shock absorber built for 2005-2007 Ford F-250 2WD trucks equipped with a Fabtech 6 inch performance suspension system. It uses twin tube hydraulic construction with 9 stage valving for controlled, fade resistant damping.

Will the FTS7236 fit a 4WD F-250?

No. This shock is designed for the 2WD front suspension geometry used in Fabtech's 6 inch performance kit for 2005-2007 F-250 trucks. Confirm your drivetrain and suspension kit before ordering.

Does the FTS7236 require a Fabtech lift kit to install?

Yes. This shock is engineered to work with Fabtech's 6 inch performance suspension system for the applicable years and is not intended as a stand-alone replacement for factory-height suspension.

What is the warranty on the FTS7236?

Fabtech performance shocks carry a 3 year limited warranty against leakage, with the shock body and mounting ends covered as long as they remain undamaged.

Can the FTS7236 be rebuilt or serviced?

Fabtech Performance series shocks are not intended to be user-serviced or rebuilt. If a shock fails within the warranty period, it should be returned to Fabtech for inspection.

What type of valving does the FTS7236 use?

The FTS7236 uses a high flow 9 stage valving system that adjusts damping force across a wide range of driving conditions for a controlled, comfortable ride.

Is the FTS7236 sold as a single shock or a pair?

The FTS7236 is sold individually. Fabtech recommends replacing shocks in pairs on the same axle for balanced ride control.

How does the closed cell foam insert help performance?

The closed cell foam insert helps reduce oil aeration inside the shock body, which minimizes shock fade during extended driving or repeated bumps at speed.

What size is the piston rod on the FTS7236?

The FTS7236 uses a 9/16 inch hardened chrome piston rod designed to resist pitting and corrosion over the life of the shock.

Install Instructions

  1. Safely raise and support the front of the vehicle so the wheels hang free, then remove the front wheel.
  2. Remove the lower shock mounting bolt, then remove the upper shock mounting hardware.
  3. Extend and compress the new FTS7236 shock fully three to five times to purge air and prime the internal valving.
  4. Position the new shock in the mounting brackets, starting the upper hardware first, then the lower bolt.
  5. Torque the upper and lower mounting hardware to the vehicle and suspension kit manufacturer's specifications.
  6. Reinstall the wheel and torque lug nuts to factory specifications.
  7. Repeat on the opposite side, then check for proper tire clearance through full suspension travel.
  8. Have the front end alignment checked and adjusted to factory specifications after installation.

Fabtech

Fabtech

Fabtech is a California-based suspension lift kit and off-road suspension manufacturer that has been engineering lift systems, control arms, sway bar disconnects, steering components, and performance shocks specifically for popular light trucks and SUVs since 1984. The brand's commitment to proper engineering, including in-field testing on real vehicles and multiple fit checks before releasing any kit, produces suspension systems that integrate cleanly with factory TPMS sensors, electronic stability control, and factory ABS systems that many cheaper lift kit manufacturers ignore. Fabtech lift kits for Ford F-150, F-250, F-350 Super Duty, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Toyota Tacoma, Ford Bronco, and Jeep Wrangler are among the most popular because the brand covers all major market truck platforms with model-year specific kits rather than generic universal designs. Serious off-road enthusiasts and truck owners who plan to run 33 to 40-inch tires with confidence that the suspension ...

Suspension

Aftermarket suspension systems improve handling, ride quality, and ride height adjustment beyond what the factory suspension provides. From lowering springs and coilover kits for sport handling to lift kits and leveling kits for truck and SUV off-road capability, quality suspension components transform how a vehicle rides and handles. Popular Suspension Upgrades Popular suspension upgrades include coilover kits for adjustable ride height and damping, sport lowering springs for improved handling and reduced body roll, performance shock absorbers and strut assemblies, sway bar and end link upgrade kits, subframe brace kits, and complete suspension packages for lifted trucks and off-road SUVs. Alignment kits including camber bolts and camber arms are also frequently ordered after ride height changes. What is the difference between coilovers and lowering springs? Coilovers are complete shock and spring assemblies with adjustable ride height set by threading the spring perch on the shock...
