About Hawk Performance

Hawk Performance is a US-based manufacturer of high-performance and racing brake friction compounds trusted by professional racing teams and performance enthusiasts worldwide. The HT-10 compound has been a mainstay in road racing for decades, selected for its combination of smooth, linear modulation and high-temperature capability that holds up across endurance sessions without the aggressive cold bite that can make full-race compounds difficult to manage. Every Hawk pad is engineered to a specific FMSI shape and compound code, ensuring a direct fit and predictable performance for the listed application.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the HB145S.570?

The Hawk HB145S.570 is an HT-10 race compound rear brake pad for a wide range of Honda and Acura vehicles. It uses the FMSI D537 pad shape with a 0.570-inch thickness and is designed as a direct OEM caliper replacement. The HT-10 compound provides smooth initial bite and consistent pedal feel in the 500 to 1100 degree Fahrenheit optimal operating range, making it well suited for road course, autocross, and high-performance street use.

What front pad does the HB145S.570 pair with on the Honda Accord and Civic?

The HB145S.570 pairs directly with the Hawk HB275S.594 HT-10 front pads for the 1998-2002 Honda Accord and 2006-2011 Civic. Running the same HT-10 compound front and rear provides balanced, linear braking response without the uneven bias that can result from mismatched compounds on the two axles.

How many pads come in one box of HB145S.570?

Each box contains two pads, covering one axle end. A complete rear axle replacement requires two boxes. The pads are sold individually by axle end to allow separate front and rear compound choices.

What temperature range does the Hawk HT-10 compound work best in?

The HT-10 optimal operating range is 500 to 1100 degrees Fahrenheit with a safe range of 300 to 1300 degrees. The compound is functional at street temperatures but delivers its rated friction and modulation characteristics once warmed up through repeated hard braking. For best performance, complete a proper bed-in procedure before track use.

Is the HB145S.570 suitable for daily street driving?

The HT-10 compound can be driven on the street. Cold bite is smooth and progressive rather than aggressive, which makes it functional in everyday traffic. However, it produces more dust and noise than a street-optimized compound and works best when the brakes are brought up to operating temperature. Drivers who primarily use their vehicle on the street with occasional track days should consider the HPS or Ceramic compound on the same D537 shape for a more street-friendly experience.

Does the HB145S.570 require a bed-in procedure?

Yes. Hawk recommends performing a proper bed-in before hard use. Make 6 to 10 moderate stops from 40 to 60 mph without fully stopping the vehicle, allowing the brakes to cool between stops. Follow with 4 to 5 more aggressive stops from higher speeds, then allow the brakes to cool completely before aggressive driving. Proper bed-in transfers an even layer of friction material to the rotor surface and prevents hot spots.

What is the difference between HB145S.570 and HB145Z.570?

Both pads use the identical FMSI D537 shape and 0.570-inch thickness and fit the same Honda and Acura applications. The difference is compound: HB145S.570 uses the HT-10 race compound, optimized for track temperatures with high torque and excellent modulation at 500 to 1100 degrees Fahrenheit. HB145Z.570 uses the Ceramic street compound, optimized for daily driving with lower dust, lower noise, and a broader cold-temperature operating range from 100 to 650 degrees Fahrenheit.

What vehicles does the HB145S.570 fit?

The HB145S.570 fits a broad range of rear-disc Honda and Acura vehicles, including the Honda Accord (1990-2007), Honda Civic (2002-2015), Honda S2000 (2000-2009), Honda CR-V (2002-2015), Acura RSX Type-S (2002-2006), Acura Integra Type R (1997-2001), and many additional models. See the fitment table above for the complete vehicle list.

Installation Instructions

  1. Lift the vehicle and support it safely on jack stands at the rear axle. Remove the rear wheels.
  2. Inspect the rear brake caliper, caliper bracket, rotor, and brake lines for wear or damage before proceeding.
  3. Remove the caliper bolts and slide the caliper off the rotor. Support the caliper with a hook to prevent it from hanging by the brake hose.
  4. Remove the worn rear brake pads and any retaining clips or shims from the caliper bracket.
  5. Clean the caliper bracket sliding surfaces with a wire brush and brake cleaner. Apply a thin coat of caliper grease to metal sliding surfaces only.
  6. If the rear caliper uses a screw-in piston, use a rear caliper wind-back tool to retract the piston. Do not push the piston straight in on rear calipers with integrated parking brake mechanisms. Open the brake fluid reservoir cap before retracting.
  7. Install the new HB145S.570 pads in the caliper bracket and confirm all hardware and clips are properly seated.
  8. Reinstall the caliper and torque the caliper bolts to the vehicle manufacturer's specification.
  9. Pump the brake pedal until a firm pedal is felt. Check and top up brake fluid in the reservoir if needed.
  10. Complete the Hawk bed-in procedure before sustained hard braking. See the FAQ above for recommended steps.
