Lower Your BMW i5 M60 Without Sacrificing Ride Quality

The H&R HRS28548-1 front lowering spring set is engineered specifically for the 2024-2026 BMW i5 M60 xDrive equipped with rear air suspension, as well as the 2025-2026 BMW i5 xDrive40 with M Sport suspension. Part No. 28548-1 drops the front ride height approximately 25mm (about 1 inch) while preserving OEM ride comfort and factory suspension geometry. Because the M60 xDrive uses rear air suspension, this kit includes front springs only. The rear of the vehicle continues to use the OEM air springs, which already provide adjustable ride height control. H&R engineers each spring using cold-wound techniques and a progressive rate design so the reduced ride height improves the car's visual stance and handling response without introducing a harsh ride or clunking over expansion joints.

FAQ

What is the HRS28548-1?

The HRS28548-1 is an H&R front lowering spring set (H&R Part No. 28548-1) designed for the 2024-2026 BMW i5 M60 xDrive with rear air suspension and the 2025-2026 BMW i5 xDrive40 with M Sport suspension, lowering the front approximately 25mm.

Why does this kit only include front springs?

The i5 M60 xDrive uses a rear air suspension system rather than steel coil springs. Since the rear ride height is controlled electronically by the factory air suspension, H&R designed HRS28548-1 as a front-only kit that pairs with the OEM rear air springs.

Will this spring set fit an i5 without M Sport suspension?

No. This spring set requires the factory M Sport suspension setup. Vehicles without M Sport suspension have different spring perches and damper tuning that are not compatible with this kit.

How much does the front end drop with this spring set installed?

Expect approximately 25mm, or about 1 inch, of front ride height reduction from factory height.

Does lowering the front with this kit affect the rear air suspension operation?

No. The rear air suspension continues to operate normally and independently, including any factory ride height adjustment functions.

Do I need an alignment after installing these springs?

Yes. Any change in ride height alters suspension geometry, so a full wheel alignment is recommended after installation to restore proper camber and toe settings.

Will this spring set affect ride comfort on the i5 M60?

H&R uses a progressive spring rate that is calibrated to reduce body roll and improve handling response while keeping ride quality close to factory levels. Some firmness increase compared to stock is expected.

Can this spring set be installed with the factory struts and shocks?

Yes. This spring set is designed to work with the factory M Sport struts and shocks. No damper replacement is required for proper function.

Install Instructions

  1. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle on jack stands rated for the i5's weight.
  2. Remove the front wheels to access the strut assemblies.
  3. Remove the front strut assemblies following BMW's factory service procedure, using a spring compressor as needed.
  4. Compress and remove the factory front springs from the strut assemblies.
  5. Install the new H&R front springs onto the strut assemblies in the same orientation as the factory springs.
  6. Reassemble the strut assemblies and torque all fasteners to BMW factory specification.
  7. Reinstall the front strut assemblies into the vehicle and torque mounting hardware to specification.
  8. Reinstall the front wheels and lower the vehicle.
  9. Have the vehicle's front and rear ride height measured and a full wheel alignment performed.

H&R

H&R Special Springs is a German suspension manufacturer founded in 1984 that produces premium lowering springs, coilover kits, sway bars, wheel spacers, and complete suspension systems for European, Japanese, and domestic performance vehicles. The brand's springs are manufactured in Germany using a progressive-rate design that provides a lower stance with improved handling compared to stock while maintaining the compliance needed for daily driving on imperfect road surfaces. H&R coilover systems including the Street Coilover and Sport Coilover lines provide adjustable ride height from approximately 1 to 3 inches of drop alongside matched shock absorbers that are calibrated for the specific vehicle's weight and suspension geometry. The brand's TUV and ECE certifications for European applications ensure compliance with European vehicle regulations, and H&R's decades of development testing on German roads and race tracks produce suspension systems with well-developed, confi...

Suspension

Aftermarket suspension systems improve handling, ride quality, and ride height adjustment beyond what the factory suspension provides. From lowering springs and coilover kits for sport handling to lift kits and leveling kits for truck and SUV off-road capability, quality suspension components transform how a vehicle rides and handles. Popular Suspension Upgrades Popular suspension upgrades include coilover kits for adjustable ride height and damping, sport lowering springs for improved handling and reduced body roll, performance shock absorbers and strut assemblies, sway bar and end link upgrade kits, subframe brace kits, and complete suspension packages for lifted trucks and off-road SUVs. Alignment kits including camber bolts and camber arms are also frequently ordered after ride height changes. What is the difference between coilovers and lowering springs? Coilovers are complete shock and spring assemblies with adjustable ride height set by threading the spring perch on the shock...
