Upgrade Your WK2 Stopping Power with Rotora Stainless Steel Rear Brake Lines

The Rotora L.58318 stainless steel brake lines are a direct-fit rear brake hose upgrade engineered specifically for the 2011-2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Built around a PTFE inner core wrapped in stainless steel braid, the L.58318 eliminates the hose expansion that degrades rubber brake line performance over time. The result is a firmer, more consistent pedal feel with precise brake modulation under hard braking. Every L.58318 kit is 100% pressure tested to 3,500 PSI in-house and manufactured to meet and exceed DOT compliance and FMVSS 106 standards. This kit covers all non-SRT Grand Cherokee trims from 2011 through 2021 and includes all necessary fittings and hardware for a direct bolt-on installation.

Key Features

  • PTFE Inner Core -- Teflon-lined inner tube resists brake fluid degradation and withstands extreme temperatures without expansion under pressure
  • Stainless Steel Braid -- Woven stainless steel outer layer provides structural support, abrasion resistance, and long-term durability
  • Blue PVC Protective Jacket -- Abrasion-resistant PVC coating shields the braid from chafing and environmental damage
  • 3,500 PSI Tested -- Every L.58318 line is 100% pressure tested in-house to 3,500 PSI before leaving the factory
  • DOT and FMVSS 106 Compliant -- Meets and exceeds all federal motor vehicle safety standards for brake hose assemblies
  • Direct Bolt-On Fit -- Purpose-engineered for the 2011-2021 Grand Cherokee rear brake system with no modifications required
  • Strain Relief End Fittings -- Reinforced fittings prevent stress cracking at connection points
  • M10 x 1.0 Thread Note -- If the brake line fitting threads are stripped (a common issue on these vehicles), chase them with an M10 x 1.0 die before installation

Fitment

This kit does NOT fit SRT, SRT8, or Trackhawk models. Those trims use Brembo brake hardware with different line routing and fittings not compatible with L.58318.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the L.58318 fit my Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT or Trackhawk?
A: No. The L.58318 is not compatible with SRT, SRT8, or Trackhawk models. Those vehicles use Brembo brake calipers with different line fittings and routing. Only non-SRT WK2 Grand Cherokees from 2011 to 2021 are compatible with the L.58318.

Q: Will I notice a difference in pedal feel after installing the L.58318?
A: Yes. Rubber factory hoses flex and expand under pressure, which gives the pedal a soft or spongy feel. The PTFE inner core in the L.58318 does not expand under pressure, so the pedal feels firmer and more direct from the first brake application.

Q: Is the L.58318 DOT compliant and street legal in all 50 states?
A: Yes. The L.58318 is manufactured to meet and exceed both DOT compliance standards and FMVSS 106 requirements, making it fully street legal in all 50 states.

Q: What thread size are the rear brake line fittings on the WK2 Grand Cherokee?
A: The rear brake line fittings use M10 x 1.0 metric threads. If the fitting port threads are damaged or stripped which is common on higher-mileage WK2s due to corrosion chase the threads with an M10 x 1.0 die before attempting installation. Order the exact die here. Forcing fittings into stripped threads will cause leaks and may require caliper bracket replacement.

Q: Do I need to bleed my brakes after installing the L.58318?
A: Yes, without exception. Any time a brake line is opened, air enters the system. You must perform a full brake fluid bleed on all four corners after installation. Begin at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (typically right rear), then left rear, right front, and left front. Use fresh DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid per your owner's manual. Do not drive the vehicle until the pedal is firm and the bleed is complete.

Q: How long does it take to install the L.58318?
A: For a mechanically experienced installer, allow approximately 1 to 2 hours for the rear lines plus brake bleed. Heavily corroded fitting threads or seized banjo bolts can add time. Applying penetrating oil to fittings 24 hours before installation is strongly recommended on vehicles with more than 60,000 miles.

Q: Will installing the L.58318 void my factory warranty?
A: No. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer cannot void your vehicle warranty simply because you installed an aftermarket part. The dealer would need to prove the aftermarket brake line directly caused any warranty claim to deny coverage.

Q: What brake fluid is compatible with the L.58318?
A: Use the brake fluid type specified in your Grand Cherokee owner's manual -- typically DOT 3 or DOT 4. The PTFE inner core is fully compatible with both fluid types. Do not use DOT 5 silicone-based fluid, which is not compatible with most ABS systems.

Q: Does the L.58318 fit the WK2 Grand Cherokee in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations?
A: Yes. The rear brake line routing on the 2011-2021 Grand Cherokee is identical for both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive variants, and the L.58318 fits both.

If the threads are stripped (a common issue on these vehicles), chase them with an M10 x 1.0 die before installation. Die available here.

Installation Instructions

  1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and allow the brake system to cool completely before beginning work.
  2. Gather tools: flare nut wrench set (10mm, 12mm, 15mm), M10 x 1.0 thread die, torque wrench, drain pan, penetrating oil, clean rags, and fresh brake fluid (DOT 3 or DOT 4 per your owner's manual).
  3. Open the hood and locate the brake fluid reservoir on the driver's side firewall. Note the current fluid level.
  4. Raise the rear of the vehicle with a floor jack and support it securely on jack stands rated for your vehicle's weight. Remove the rear wheels.
  5. Spray penetrating oil liberally on all brake line fitting connections at the caliper banjo bolt and hard line junction. Allow to soak for a minimum of 10 minutes.
  6. Inspect the fitting threads at both connection points. If you observe corrosion, cross-threading, or damage, use an M10 x 1.0 thread die to chase the threads before proceeding. Forcing fittings onto damaged threads will cause leaks.
  7. Place a drain pan beneath the caliper. Using a 15mm wrench, loosen and remove the banjo bolt at the caliper. Remove the two copper crush washers and set aside -- new washers are included in the L.58318 kit.
  8. At the hard line junction bracket, use a 12mm flare nut wrench to loosen the hard line fitting nut from the flex hose end. Remove the horseshoe retaining clip from the hose bracket using needle-nose pliers.
  9. Remove the old rubber flex hose from the bracket and caliper. Discard the old hose and old copper crush washers.
  10. Position the new Rotora L.58318 line. Thread the banjo bolt end into the caliper by hand first to confirm threads are clean. Place one new copper crush washer on each side of the banjo fitting, then install the banjo bolt and torque to approximately 13 to 17 ft-lbs.
  11. Connect the hard line fitting nut to the L.58318 line end by hand, then tighten with a 12mm flare nut wrench. Snug firmly but do not overtighten. Re-install the horseshoe retaining clip into the bracket.
  12. Repeat on the opposite rear corner.
  13. Reinstall the wheels and lower the vehicle from jack stands.
  14. Top off the brake fluid reservoir to the MAX line with fresh, clean brake fluid.
  15. Perform a complete four-corner brake bleed: right rear, left rear, right front, left front. Bleed until fluid runs clear with no air bubbles, keeping the reservoir topped off throughout. Never allow the reservoir to run dry.
  16. With the vehicle stationary, pump the brake pedal firmly several times until the pedal is solid. If the pedal remains soft, repeat the bleed procedure before driving.
  17. Inspect all connections with a flashlight for any fluid seepage. Clean with brake cleaner and re-inspect after a second firm pedal application.
  18. Conduct a low-speed test in a safe area before returning to normal use. Confirm full brake engagement and verify no warning lights are illuminated on the dash.
