Precision-Adjustable Rear Sway Bar Built for 1965-1970 Chevrolet B-Body Platforms

The Ridetech 11289102 MUSCLEbar Rear Sway Bar transforms the cornering behavior of 1965-1970 Chevrolet B-Body vehicles including the Impala, Bel Air, Caprice, Biscayne, and several wagon variants. Unlike conventional aftermarket sway bars with fixed rates, the 11289102 uses a sliding mount system that allows three distinct bar rate settings between 177, 199, and 255 lbs to dial in exactly the chassis balance your build requires. CNC-bent 1-inch diameter tubing ensures dimensional accuracy and consistent bar rates from unit to unit. Billet aluminum anodized-black mounts and low-friction frame bushings replace the spongy polyurethane or rubber bushings found on most sway bar kits, delivering a crisp, predictable handling response with none of the bind or stick that undermines corner entry confidence. The 11289102 includes bracket sets for both 1965-1966 and 1967-1970 configurations in one kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Ridetech 11289102 MUSCLEbar and how does it differ from a standard sway bar?

The Ridetech 11289102 is an adjustable-rate rear sway bar kit designed for 1965-1970 Chevrolet B-Body platforms. Unlike conventional fixed-rate sway bars, the 11289102 uses a sliding aluminum clamp that moves fore and aft on the bar to give you three distinct bar rate settings at 177, 199, and 255 lbs, allowing you to tune understeer and oversteer balance without swapping the bar itself.

Does the Ridetech 11289102 work with stock trailing arms?

Yes. The 11289102 is designed for use with the stock factory trailing arms or with Ridetech replacement trailing arms. No trailing arm modification is required for installation on a standard B-Body rear suspension.

Does the Ridetech 11289102 fit all 1965-1970 Impala trims including the SS?

Yes. The Ridetech 11289102 fits 1965-1970 Chevrolet Impala in all body styles using the standard B-Body rear suspension, including the Impala SS, Sport Coupe, Custom Coupe, and four-door sedans, as well as Bel Air, Biscayne, Caprice, and the wagon variants such as the Kingswood, Brookwood, and Townsman.

How are the bar rate adjustments made on the Ridetech 11289102?

The sliding aluminum clamp on the 11289102 moves fore and aft along the bar to change the effective lever arm and select between the three documented rate settings. Move the clamp inward for a softer rate (177 lbs) or outward for a stiffer rate (255 lbs). Exact bar rates are measured 1 inch apart from the end of the bar and documented on the included card.

What type of frame bushings does the Ridetech 11289102 use?

The 11289102 uses low-friction bushings at the frame mounting points rather than conventional rubber or polyurethane. This design allows the bar to rotate through its range of motion without binding or stiction, producing a more linear and predictable response compared to typical bushing-based sway bar kits.

Is a professional alignment needed after installing the Ridetech 11289102?

A four-wheel alignment is recommended after any rear suspension modification. While the rear sway bar itself does not directly change wheel alignment angles, other rear suspension adjustments frequently accompany bar installation on B-Body builds, particularly on lowered vehicles.

Does the Ridetech 11289102 include all hardware needed for installation?

Yes. The 11289102 includes the sway bar, spherical end links, axle brackets, frame bracket sets for both 1965-1966 and 1967-1970 body configurations, U-bolts, and all mounting hardware needed for a complete installation on any 1965-1970 Chevrolet B-Body.

Can the Ridetech 11289102 be installed on a 1969-1970 Caprice wagon?

Yes. The 1969-1970 Chevrolet Caprice and its wagon variants use the same B-Body rear suspension platform and are covered by the 11289102 fitment. The included 1967-1970 bracket set is the correct bracket for these applications.

Installation Instructions

  1. Safely raise the rear of the vehicle and support it on jack stands at the frame rails. Do not support by the rear axle housing during installation.
  2. Place a floor jack under the rear axle to provide support and allow controlled movement during installation.
  3. Identify the correct bracket set for your vehicle: 1965-1966 or 1967-1970.
  4. Install the frame brackets at the designated mounting points on each frame rail. Snug fasteners only at this stage.
  5. Slide the low-friction frame bushings into the frame brackets and position the sway bar through them.
  6. Attach the axle brackets to the rear axle housing using the supplied U-bolts. Snug only at this stage.
  7. Connect the spherical end links between the sway bar ends and the axle brackets. Ensure all rod ends are properly threaded and seated.
  8. Set your desired rate position by positioning the sliding aluminum clamp fore or aft on the bar before final tightening.
  9. Lower the vehicle to ride height and torque all hardware to specification including the axle bracket U-bolts, frame bracket fasteners, and end link hardware.
  10. Verify that the bar has clearance from all chassis, body, and exhaust components through the full suspension travel range.

Suspension

Aftermarket suspension systems improve handling, ride quality, and ride height adjustment beyond what the factory suspension provides. From lowering springs and coilover kits for sport handling to lift kits and leveling kits for truck and SUV off-road capability, quality suspension components transform how a vehicle rides and handles. Popular Suspension Upgrades Popular suspension upgrades include coilover kits for adjustable ride height and damping, sport lowering springs for improved handling and reduced body roll, performance shock absorbers and strut assemblies, sway bar and end link upgrade kits, subframe brace kits, and complete suspension packages for lifted trucks and off-road SUVs. Alignment kits including camber bolts and camber arms are also frequently ordered after ride height changes. What is the difference between coilovers and lowering springs? Coilovers are complete shock and spring assemblies with adjustable ride height set by threading the spring perch on the shock...
