Dual Steering Precision for 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ Builds Running Larger Tires and Lifts
The Skyjacker 8219 is a Black MAX dual steering stabilizer kit engineered for the 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ and LJ generation, covering all trims from Sport through Sahara, Rubicon, and Unlimited. TJ Wranglers running 33-inch-and-up tires and suspension lifts are among the most common candidates for shimmy and death wobble events, and the factory single stabilizer simply lacks the damping force to control the front Dana 44 or Dana 30 axle under these conditions. The 8219 delivers dual Black MAX twin-tube cylinders with inline mounting and all required hardware to transform your TJ's steering feel on the highway and trail.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Skyjacker 8219?The Skyjacker 8219 is a Black MAX dual steering stabilizer kit for 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ and LJ platforms. It installs two twin-tube Black MAX cylinders to control front-end shimmy, reduce death wobble symptoms, and improve steering precision on TJ builds with oversized tires or suspension lifts.
Will the Skyjacker 8219 fit the 2004-2006 Wrangler Unlimited LJ?Yes. The 8219 is compatible with the 2004-2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited LJ and Unlimited Rubicon, which share the same front Dana 44 or Dana 30 axle and steering geometry as the standard TJ.
Does the Skyjacker 8219 cure Wrangler TJ death wobble? The 8219 significantly reduces shimmy and wobble symptoms caused by inadequate damping. However, death wobble is typically caused by worn tie rod ends, track bar bushings, ball joints, or loose caster adjustment. Inspecting and replacing worn components is critical to fully resolving death wobble, with the 8219 serving as an important part of the complete solution.
What lift height range is the Skyjacker 8219 compatible with on a TJ?The 8219 is compatible with stock and lifted TJ configurations. Its mounting bracket system accommodates the standard range of TJ lift heights from 2 to 6 inches without requiring additional modification.
Is the Skyjacker 8219 compatible with the 2006 Wrangler 65th Anniversary Edition?Yes. The 65th Anniversary Edition is included in the 8219 fitment list, as it shares the same TJ front steering and axle configuration as the standard Wrangler Sport and Sahara trims of the same model year.
Can I upgrade from the Skyjacker 8219 to a higher-performance stabilizer later? The 8219 uses the same bracket architecture as Skyjacker's Hydro 7000 and ADX 2.0 series TJ stabilizer kits. If you later want to upgrade the cylinders to a higher-performance variant, the mounting hardware can often be retained.
How does the dual-cylinder 8219 compare to upgrading the single stabilizer on a TJ?A single replacement cylinder provides one-for-one damping improvement over the factory unit. The 8219 dual kit provides twice the damping force with two cylinders, which is strongly recommended for TJs running 33-inch tires or larger where the front axle generates significantly more vibration input than the factory single cylinder can manage.
What warranty is included with the Skyjacker 8219?The 8219 is covered by Skyjacker's limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Contact Skyjacker Suspensions directly for full warranty terms and the claim process.
Installation Overview
- Chock the rear wheels, engage the parking brake, and position the steering wheel straight forward.
- Press hourglass bushings (coated with water-resistant grease) into both stabilizer cylinder body eyes.
- Mount the center axle bracket to the front axle housing using the supplied U-bolts. Do not fully tighten.
- Install the passenger-side tie rod bracket on top of the tie rod, single hole toward the driver side. Secure with U-bolts.
- Repeat for the driver-side tie rod bracket.
- Install a washer and poly stem bushing on the shaft end of each stabilizer and connect to the tie rod brackets. Tighten until the bushing begins to swell.
- Extend each stabilizer to half-travel. Torque center axle U-bolts to 30 ft-lbs and tie rod bracket U-bolts to 240 in-lbs.
- Cycle the steering lock to lock. Confirm 0.25-inch minimum clearance between the stabilizer bodies and the drag link. After the first 100 miles, re-check all hardware torque.
