500 lb-ft Torque Capacity Multi-Friction Clutch for the 1987-1992 Toyota Supra Turbo 7M-GTE

The Spec ST633H Stage 2+ Clutch Kit bridges the gap between street drivability and serious performance for the 1987-1992 Toyota Supra Turbo equipped with the 7M-GTE engine and R154 5-speed transmission. The ST633H uses a multi-friction disc with carbon semi-metallic on one face and Kevlar on the other, delivering the smooth engagement character of the Stage 2 while providing 15 to 20 percent more torque capacity.

Rated to 500 lb-ft, the ST633H handles bolt-on, light forced induction, and moderate power-adder builds without the harshness of a Stage 3 setup. The double-sprung hub absorbs drivetrain shock through spring cover reliefs and heat-treated components for long service life in street and track use. The Spec ST633H is manufactured in the USA to precise tolerances and is a complete kit including a new pressure plate, disc, throw-out bearing, and pilot bearing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What years and models does the Spec ST633H fit?

The Spec ST633H fits 1987-1992 Toyota Supra Turbo models equipped with the 7M-GTE engine and the R154 5-speed manual transmission. It does not fit the 1JZ-GTE or 2JZ-GTE Supra or any automatic transmission applications. Verify your transmission code stamped on the bell housing before ordering.

What is the difference between the Spec ST633H and the ST632?

The ST632 is a Stage 2 kit using a full-faced Kevlar disc rated to 460 lb-ft. The ST633H is the Stage 2+ kit, using a multi-friction disc with carbon semi-metallic on one side and Kevlar on the other, raising the torque capacity to 500 lb-ft while keeping street engagement quality comparable to the Stage 2. Choose the ST633H when your build produces more torque than a Stage 2 can safely handle but you want to avoid the firmer pedal feel of a Stage 3.

Is the Spec ST633H daily drivable on the street?

Yes. Spec classifies the Stage 2+ as street-friendly. The multi-friction disc engages progressively like the Stage 2, not abruptly like a Stage 3 or Stage 3+ racing clutch. Most owners report acceptable street manners with normal clutch adjustment, though the pedal effort is higher than stock.

Does the Spec ST633H kit include a flywheel?

No. The ST633H is a clutch kit only and does not include a flywheel. It is designed to work with either the factory OEM flywheel (resurfaced) or a Spec replacement flywheel for the Supra 7M-GTE application. If reusing the factory flywheel, have it machined to the minimum thickness spec before installation.

What is the break-in procedure for the Spec ST633H?

Spec recommends a gradual break-in period of approximately 500 miles of normal street driving after installation. During break-in, avoid hard launches, extended slippage, and wide-open-throttle clutch drops. The disc material needs heat cycles to seat fully against the flywheel and pressure plate friction surfaces before maximum torque capacity is achieved.

Can the Spec ST633H handle a turbocharged 7M-GTE with a boost increase?

The ST633H is rated to 500 lb-ft, which provides margin over the stock 7M-GTE output and supports mild to moderate bolt-on modifications and boost increases up to approximately 18 to 20 psi on a healthy engine. For aggressive power builds above that threshold, the ST633F Stage 3+ at 620 lb-ft or ST635 Stage 5 at 710 lb-ft would provide more headroom.

Does the Spec ST633H include a throw-out bearing and pilot bearing?

Yes. The ST633H kit includes a new throw-out bearing and pilot bearing. This is a complete clutch kit containing everything needed to complete the clutch replacement except the flywheel.

Is there a warranty on the Spec ST633H clutch kit?

Spec Clutch provides a limited warranty against manufacturing defects. Warranty coverage does not extend to wear or damage caused by improper installation, racing, or abuse. Review the warranty documentation included in the kit packaging for specific terms and claim procedures.

What transmission fluid should I use with the R154 after installing the Spec ST633H?

The Spec ST633H is a clutch kit and does not change the transmission fluid specification. The R154 uses a gear oil; consult your Supra service manual for the correct viscosity. Common recommendations for the R154 are 75W-90 or 75W-85 GL-4 gear oil. Do not use GL-5 fluid in the R154 as the sulfur additives can damage synchro brass components.

Installation Instructions

  1. Remove the transmission from the vehicle and support the engine securely from below or above before proceeding.
  2. Remove the clutch fork, throw-out bearing, and clutch housing dust cover to access the clutch assembly.
  3. Using a flywheel lock tool to prevent rotation, loosen the pressure plate bolts evenly in a star pattern, releasing clamp load gradually to avoid warping the pressure plate.
  4. Remove the pressure plate and clutch disc as a unit. Inspect the flywheel friction surface for heat cracks, scoring, and runout. Have the flywheel resurfaced if it does not meet minimum thickness or flatness specs.
  5. Clean all friction surfaces with brake cleaner. Do not allow grease, oil, or clutch dust to contact any friction surface.
  6. Install the new pilot bearing supplied with the ST633H into the crankshaft or flywheel pilot bore using a proper pilot bearing driver. Do not hammer directly on the bearing.
  7. Position the new clutch disc against the flywheel with the correct orientation (typically the transmission side hub faces the transmission). Insert the clutch alignment tool through the disc and into the pilot bearing to center the disc.
  8. Mount the new pressure plate over the disc and thread the bolts in finger-tight. Torque evenly in a star pattern to the flywheel-to-pressure-plate torque specification in Spec's instructions, typically 12 to 14 ft-lbs. Remove the alignment tool.
  9. Install the new throw-out bearing onto the clutch fork per your vehicle's service procedure. Check clutch fork pivot condition and replace if worn.
  10. Reinstall the transmission carefully, guiding the input shaft through the clutch disc splines without using the bolts to draw the transmission in. Torque bell housing bolts to specification.
  11. Adjust the clutch pedal free play per the factory service manual specification.
  12. Break in the clutch gradually over the first 500 miles. Avoid hard launches and extended slippage during this period.

Clutch Kits - Single

Single-disc clutch kits provide everything needed to replace the core friction components in a manual transmission system in one box. A disc, pressure plate, and release bearing shipped together as a matched kit eliminates the guesswork of sourcing compatible parts separately and ensures consistent performance from break-in through the life of the clutch.Popular UpgradesStage 1 organic single-disc kits are the best choice for street-driven vehicles at stock or lightly modified power levels, offering a smooth pedal feel close to OEM. Stage 2 kits using a high-clamp pressure plate and a sprung-hub organic disc are the most popular upgrade for modified street engines in the 300 to 500 horsepower range. Stage 3 ceramic single-disc kits handle forced induction builds where heat resistance and torque capacity are the primary requirements. What does a single-disc clutch kit include?A single-disc clutch kit typically includes one friction disc, one pressure plate assembly, and one release be...
