UMI Bolt-In Rear Lower Control Arm Relocation Brackets in Red for the 1982-2002 Camaro and Firebird
This is the UMI red powder coated version of the F-body bolt-in relocation bracket pair. Each bracket wraps the factory lower control arm mount on the axle housing and offers a set of lower pickup holes cut along the arc the arm already travels, which is how the geometry change happens without binding the arm or cutting the housing. Colour is the only difference between this pair and the black pair.

Housing compatibility published by UMI: factory rear ends and Strange Engineering rear ends are supported, while Moser Engineering rear ends are handled by UMI part number 2011.
Two model-year jobs are called out in UMI's sheet. On 1993-1997 cars the brake weight may need up to 1/4 inch trimmed, and on 1998-2002 cars the parking brake cable bracket is cut off and re-mounted on the relocation bracket.

FAQ
Is the red pair mechanically different from the black pair?No. The steel thickness, hole positions, flanges and hardware are the same; UMI separates the two only by powder coat colour.
Can I run these on a Moser housing?No. UMI excludes Moser Engineering rear ends and offers part number 2011 for those cars.
Do factory bushings carry over?Yes. The internal flanges are sized so the factory control arm bushings bolt right in, and aftermarket arms in popular styles also fit.
Is any cutting involved on a 1998-2002 car?The parking brake cable bracket has to come off and be re-attached to the relocation bracket, which UMI describes as welded or bolted on after installation.
And on a 1993-1997 car?UMI notes those may need up to a quarter inch trimmed off the brake weight, and that some cars need light grinding of the brake bracket.
Which drop hole should I use?UMI's website copy and its printed sheet do not describe the hole positions the same way. Both name a 2 inch drop, so that is the figure published here; ask UMI directly before planning a build around a deeper hole.
What tools will I need?SAE wrenches and sockets, a floor jack and jack stands, and a pry bar or a second person to push the axle forward when the arm is swung up.
Are the torque specs published?Yes: shock stud 80 ft-lbs, 7/16 inch x 4 inch bracket bolts 50 ft-lbs, and the four control arm bolts 72 ft-lbs once the suspension is loaded.
Do I have to buy hardware separately?No. New grade 10.9 bolts, nuts, washers and the two steel sleeves come with the brackets.
Will they fit a car at stock ride height?Yes. UMI lists the brackets as suitable for cars at factory height as well as lowered cars.
Installation Instructions
- Chock the front wheels, raise the rear of the car and support the frame on jack stands so the axle hangs free.
- Work one corner at a time to keep the axle located.
- Take out the rear-side lower control arm bolt and allow the arm to drop.
- Raise the axle tube slightly with a jack, then remove the shock nut and stud.
- Fit the bracket over the control arm mount and pass the 7/16 inch x 4 inch bolt with its steel sleeve through from the inside out, leaving the lock nut loose.
- Reinstall the shock stud and torque it to 80 ft-lbs.
- Push the rear end forward with a pry bar or a helper, swing the arm up to the chosen hole and fit the M12 x 100mm bolt.
- Torque the 7/16 inch x 4 inch bolt to 50 ft-lbs and leave the M12 bolt loose for now.
- Repeat on the other side, handling the brake weight trim or parking brake cable bracket if the model year calls for it.
- Set the car back down so the suspension carries the weight, then torque all four control arm bolts to 72 ft-lbs.
