UMI Rear Control Arm and On-Car Adjustable Panhard Bar Kit in Red for the 1982-2002 Camaro and Firebird
Once a Camaro or Firebird is lowered, the rear axle no longer sits centred under the body, and a fixed bar cannot fix that. This red kit combines UMI's tubular rear lower control arms with the on-car adjustable poly panhard bar, whose left and right hand threads let you change length with the bar still bolted in place, so the axle can be walked back to centre while the car sits at its real ride height.

FAQ
Which part of this kit is adjustable?The panhard bar. It has left and right hand threads so its length can be changed with the bar still on the car; the lower control arms in the kit are the fixed-length version.
Why would I need to adjust the panhard bar?To re-centre the rear axle under the body, which typically matters after lowering the car or when fitting wider tires.
How do I know the axle is centred?UMI's method is to measure from each rear wheel to the fender well. Shortening the bar moves the axle toward the passenger side and lengthening it moves the axle toward the driver's side.
Which way does the adjuster face when installing?UMI has you install the bar with the adjuster toward the driver's side, after setting the new bar to the length of the OEM bar with a 1 inch wrench and both jam nuts loosened.
What grease does the adjustable bar take?Marine-type grease, one to two pumps, two to three times a year, without over-greasing. The control arms in the kit use non-lithium grease.
Do I have to loosen anything after adjusting?The jam nuts. Loosen them before turning the adjuster and retighten them once the axle is where you want it.

Installation Instructions
- Raise the rear of the car until both wheels are off the ground and support the frame on jack stands.
- Swap the lower control arms one side at a time with 18mm tools, greasing the bushing surfaces and pointing the fittings down, leaving the bolts loose.
- Set the adjustable panhard bar to the same length as the OEM bar, using a 1 inch wrench on the adjuster with both jam nuts loosened.
- Grease the poly bushing surfaces of the panhard bar before it goes in.
- Remove the factory panhard bar with 18mm tools, saving the OEM hardware, then install the UMI bar with the adjuster toward the driver's side.
- Leave all hardware loose until the weight of the vehicle is back on the rear axle.
- Lower the car to ride height, then tighten the four control arm bolts to 72 ft-lbs and tighten the panhard bar hardware.
- Measure from each rear wheel to the fender well and turn the adjuster to centre the axle, remembering that shortening moves it toward the passenger side.
- Retighten the jam nuts on the adjuster once the axle is centred.
- Give each grease fitting one to one and a half pumps of grease, using marine-type grease on the panhard bar.
