The UMI Performance 2005-R is a front shock tower brace engineered for the 1993-2002 GM F-Body Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird equipped with V8 engines. The fourth-gen F-Body front end is known for chassis flex under hard cornering, which reduces suspension geometry consistency and degrades steering feel and front-end response.

The UMI 2005-R ties the left and right front shock towers together with a rigid tubular steel brace, limiting the amount the towers can deflect relative to each other under lateral load. The result is more consistent front suspension geometry, sharper corner entry response, and improved feedback through the steering. This brace does not fit V6 models, 1996-1997 SS models, or vehicles equipped with the FAST Performance 102 intake manifold due to clearance requirements.

  3. Position the UMI 2005-R shock tower brace across the engine bay, aligning the mounting tabs with the shock tower mounting surfaces on each side.
  4. Install the provided hardware through the brace mounting tabs and into the shock tower mounting locations.
  5. Snug all fasteners, then torque to the specification provided in the UMI installation instructions.
  6. Verify the brace does not contact the intake manifold, brake booster, or any other engine bay component under static and simulated load conditions.
  7. Close the hood and confirm hood clearance is maintained with the brace installed.
