Frequently Asked Questions
Does installing YA D84776-1 affect my vehicle warranty?
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the dealer must prove the aftermarket part caused the specific failure before denying your warranty claim. Replacing a broken or worn factory shaft does not automatically void your coverage.
Why does it say for standard open differential only?
The 2004-2007 Nissan Titan was offered with both open and limited-slip rear differentials. The side gear spline interface and shaft dimensions can differ between the two. YA D84776-1 is designed for open differential applications. Verify your Titan's differential type before ordering.
Is this a C-clip or bolt-retained axle shaft?
The Nissan Titan uses a C-clip axle retention design. The differential cover must be removed to access and remove the C-clips before the shaft can be withdrawn from the axle tube.
Do I need to replace both shafts at the same time?
If one shaft has broken, replacing both is recommended to prevent the second aging shaft from failing shortly after. Matching shaft condition ensures even performance.
What gear oil does the Nissan Titan rear differential require?
Nissan specifies 80W-90 gear oil for the Titan rear differential. Change the fluid at the same time as the axle shaft replacement to remove any metal debris from the failed shaft.
Can I install YA D84776-1 myself?
Yes, with basic tools. A C-clip axle shaft replacement is a manageable DIY job. The most critical step is correctly seating the C-clip after installation to prevent the shaft from walking out of the housing under load.
What year Titans does this cover?
YA D84776-1 covers 2004 through 2007 Nissan Titan models with the standard open rear differential. The 2008 and newer Titan uses a different axle configuration.
What warranty covers YA D84776-1?
Yukon Gear provides a manufacturer limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase.
Installation Instructions
- Raise and support the vehicle safely. Remove the wheel and tire on the affected side.
- Remove the brake caliper and rotor for better access.
- Remove the differential cover bolts and cover. Drain the gear oil into a drain pan.
- Remove the pinion shaft lock bolt and slide out the differential pinion shaft.
- Push the axle shaft inward toward the center of the differential to expose the C-clip at the shaft end.
- Remove the C-clip using needle-nose pliers. Slide the old shaft out of the axle tube.
- Inspect the axle tube bearing and seal. Replace if worn, dry, or leaking.
- Apply a light coat of clean gear oil to the spline end of YA D84776-1.
- Slide the new shaft into the axle tube and engage the splines into the differential side gear.
- Install the C-clip into the groove on the shaft end. Pull the shaft outward firmly to seat the C-clip.
- Reinstall the pinion shaft and secure with the lock bolt torqued to Nissan specification.
- Clean the differential cover mating surface. Apply new RTV or gasket and install the cover.
- Fill the differential with the correct gear oil to the proper level.
- Reinstall the rotor, caliper, wheel, and tire. Torque to specification. Road-test and inspect for leaks.

Axles
Upgrading your axles is one of the highest-impact modifications for trucks and off-road vehicles that regularly see hard launches, deep mud, rock crawling, or towing at the limits. Aftermarket axle shafts are manufactured from higher-grade steel than OEM units, delivering greater torsional strength and resistance to fatigue failures that stock shafts cannot handle under sustained abuse. Popular Upgrades Chromoly front and rear axle shafts are the go-to upgrade for lifted trucks and Jeep builds running larger tires with increased leverage on the driveline. Locking differentials paired with upgraded axles make a complete traction system for serious off-road builds. Heavy-duty CV axles for both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive platforms handle the added stress of lowered suspension geometry and high-horsepower applications. When should I upgrade my axle shafts? Upgrade your axle shafts when adding larger tires, significantly increasing engine power, installing a locking differenti...
