Frequently Asked Questions
Does installing this axle shaft affect my factory warranty?
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the manufacturer must prove the aftermarket part caused the specific failure before denying your warranty claim. Installing a higher-quality replacement shaft does not automatically void your coverage.
What is the Chrysler 8.25 inch and where is it used?
The Chrysler 8.25 inch is an axle that was used in Jeep Cherokee XJ, Grand Cherokee, and Dodge Durango models from the 1980s through the 2000s. It is a semi-float axle with a C-clip retention design and is the most common rear axle in XJ Cherokee builds.
Is the Chrysler 8.25 inch a weak axle?
The 8.25 inch is adequate for stock-power applications with moderate off-road use and 31-inch tires. For builds with lockers, larger tires, or modified engines, upgrading to a Dana 44 rear axle is recommended for maximum strength.
Does YA C52098902 fit both left and right sides?
Confirm left-right fitment for your specific application before ordering. The XJ Cherokee 8.25 inch typically uses the same shaft length on both sides, but verify before purchasing.
What gear oil does the Chrysler 8.25 inch require?
Use 80W-90 GL-5 gear oil for open differentials. If a Sure-Grip limited-slip is installed, add Mopar limited-slip additive.
What is the spline count on the Chrysler 8.25 inch?
The standard Chrysler 8.25 inch uses 27 or 29 spline axle shafts depending on the production year and application. Confirm the spline count on your existing shaft before ordering.
Is the Chrysler 8.25 inch a C-clip axle?
Yes. The 8.25 inch uses C-clip axle shaft retention, requiring differential cover removal to access the clips before the shaft can be removed.
Can I install a locker in the Chrysler 8.25 inch?
Yes, several aftermarket lockers are available for the Chrysler 8.25 inch, and upgrading to YA C52098902 1541H shafts alongside a locker installation is a good practice.
What warranty covers YA C52098902?
Yukon Gear provides a manufacturer limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase.

Axles
Upgrading your axles is one of the highest-impact modifications for trucks and off-road vehicles that regularly see hard launches, deep mud, rock crawling, or towing at the limits. Aftermarket axle shafts are manufactured from higher-grade steel than OEM units, delivering greater torsional strength and resistance to fatigue failures that stock shafts cannot handle under sustained abuse. Popular Upgrades Chromoly front and rear axle shafts are the go-to upgrade for lifted trucks and Jeep builds running larger tires with increased leverage on the driveline. Locking differentials paired with upgraded axles make a complete traction system for serious off-road builds. Heavy-duty CV axles for both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive platforms handle the added stress of lowered suspension geometry and high-horsepower applications. When should I upgrade my axle shafts? Upgrade your axle shafts when adding larger tires, significantly increasing engine power, installing a locking differenti...
