Installation Instructions

1. Safely raise and support the vehicle. Drain differential fluid from the Dana 44 housing.
2. Remove the differential cover. Remove carrier bearing caps, marking them for reassembly in their original positions.
3. Remove the differential carrier from the housing.
4. Press off original carrier bearings using a bearing puller. Install new Timken carrier bearings from the CK D44 using a press.
5. Install new carrier bearing races from the CK D44 into the housing bores, fully seated.
6. Install the carrier into the housing. Use the shim kit from the CK D44 to adjust backlash to manufacturer specification.
7. Verify gear contact pattern with marking compound. Adjust shims as needed to achieve correct pattern.
8. Reinstall bearing caps in original positions and torque to specification.
9. Reinstall differential cover with new gasket or RTV. Fill with correct differential fluid to the proper level. Lower vehicle.
