The YDGC9.25ZF-31-1 is the Yukon Dura Grip clutch-pack positraction designed specifically for the 2011 and newer Chrysler 9.25-inch ZF rear differential using 31 spline axles. This limited-slip unit fits all gear ratios in the 2011 and up Chrysler 9.25 ZF housing found in Ram 1500 pickup trucks, replacing the open differential with progressive torque-biasing capability across all driving conditions. Built with a high-strength nodular iron case, forged 4320 chromoly spider gears, and composite clutch packs, YDGC9.25ZF-31-1 provides smooth traction improvement without the aggressive lockup behavior of a full locker. The unit is fully rebuildable and assembled in the USA.

Installation Instructions

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Drain the Chrysler 9.25 ZF differential gear oil.
  2. Remove the rear axle shafts from both sides to gain access to the differential.
  3. Remove the differential cover and gasket. Clean the housing mating surface thoroughly.
  4. Mark the bearing caps for exact reinstallation in their original positions.
  5. Remove bearing cap bolts and extract the factory open differential carrier with shims and bearings. Keep left and right shim stacks separated.
  6. Remove the ring gear from the factory carrier. Inspect ring gear teeth and bolts for wear.
  7. Install the ring gear onto the YDGC9.25ZF-31-1 Dura Grip carrier using clean ring gear bolts with thread-lock compound. Torque to Chrysler 9.25 specification (typically 55 to 75 ft-lb).
  8. Press original carrier bearings onto the Dura Grip carrier bearing journals, or install new carrier bearings.
  9. Install the Dura Grip assembly into the housing with the original shim stacks. Reinstall bearing caps in marked positions.
  10. Check and adjust ring gear backlash (typically 0.005 to 0.009 in) and carrier bearing preload. Adjust shims as needed.
  11. Verify gear contact pattern with marking compound.
  12. Torque bearing cap bolts to Chrysler 9.25 specification. Install a new cover gasket and cover.
  13. Reinstall the axle shafts. Fill with non-synthetic GL-5 gear oil and Yukon LSD additive (OILADD) to the proper level.
  14. Road test and allow a 500-mile break-in period before heavy towing or off-road use.
