Built for Dodge Ram, Dodge Dakota, Dodge Durango, and Chrysler Aspen owners who demand traction in all conditions, the YDGC9.25-31-1 Yukon Gear DuraGrip is a clutch-style limited slip differential for the Chrysler 9.25 inch rear axle with 31-spline axle shafts. Part number YDGC9.25-31-1 replaces worn factory open differentials or factory limited slip units that have lost their grip, restoring confident traction on slick roads, trails, and jobsites. Assembled in the USA, this YDGC9.25-31-1 unit features a high-strength nodular iron case, forged 4320 chromoly spider gears, and composite clutch packs for smooth, progressive torque transfer without the chatter common in lesser limited slip designs.

What year Dodge Ram trucks does the YDGC9.25-31-1 fit?
The YDGC9.25-31-1 fits Dodge Ram 1500 trucks from approximately 1994 through 2010 equipped with the Chrysler 9.25 inch rear axle and 31-spline axle shafts. This is the pre-ZF (2010 and earlier) version of the 9.25 axle.
Is there a 2011 and up version?
Yes. For 2011 and newer Ram 1500 with the 9.25 ZF rear axle, you need part number YDGC9.25ZF-31-1. The YDGC9.25-31-1 fits the earlier non-ZF Chrysler 9.25 housing only.
Does YDGC9.25-31-1 work with all gear ratios?
Yes. The YDGC9.25-31-1 is compatible with all available gear ratios for the Chrysler 9.25 inch rear differential, including 3.21, 3.55, and 3.92.
What is the difference between a limited slip and a locker?
A limited slip like the YDGC9.25-31-1 allows some differentiation between wheels during turns while still transferring torque to the wheel with better traction. A locker completely locks both axle shafts together. For street and light off-road use, a limited slip is generally preferred.
What gear oil does Yukon recommend for YDGC9.25-31-1?
Yukon recommends a high-grade non-synthetic GL-5 gear oil along with Yukon LSD additive (part number OILADD). Synthetic oil is not recommended and may cause aggressive or noisy clutch engagement.
Can I rebuild the YDGC9.25-31-1 clutch pack when it wears out?
Yes. The DuraGrip design is fully rebuildable. Replacement clutch packs and springs are available separately so you do not need to purchase a new unit when the clutch material wears down.
Does the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act apply to this installation?
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, installing an aftermarket limited slip differential such as the YDGC9.25-31-1 does not automatically void your vehicle warranty. The dealer must demonstrate that the aftermarket part caused the specific failure before denying a warranty claim.
Do I need to replace my axle bearings when installing YDGC9.25-31-1?
It is best practice to inspect and replace carrier bearings and races when installing a new differential carrier. New bearings ensure correct preload and prevent premature failure of the new unit.

Differentials distribute engine torque between drive wheels, allowing them to rotate at different speeds through corners while maintaining traction. Upgrading from a factory open differential to a limited-slip or locking differential is one of the most impactful drivetrain improvements you can make for towing, off-roading, drag racing, or any application where both wheels need to work together under load.Popular Differential UpgradesTop upgrades include Eaton Detroit Locker and Eaton Truetrac limited-slip units for GM, Ford, Dana, and Chrysler axles, ARB Air Lockers for Jeep and truck off-road applications, and OS Giken Super Lock LSD units for JDM performance platforms. Locker conversions for Dana 44 and Dana 60 front axles are essential for serious rock crawling, while Truetrac helical LSDs deliver traction improvements without aggressive locking behavior for street and tow applications. What is the difference between a locker and a limited-slip differential?A locking differential ...
