Installation Instructions

1. Raise and support vehicle. Drain differential and remove cover, driveshaft, and axle shafts.
2. Mark bearing caps for reinstallation position, then remove them.
3. Extract the old carrier with side bearing shims. Keep shims organized by side.
4. Transfer ring gear to YDGD44-4-30-1. Torque ring gear bolts to approximately 55 to 65 ft-lb for Dana 44 (use correct bolt size for your application).
5. Press side bearings onto the new carrier. Reinstall using original shims as starting point.
6. Check backlash with a dial indicator; target is 0.005 to 0.010 inch for Dana 44.
7. Verify gear contact pattern with marking compound and adjust shims as needed.
8. Torque bearing caps to specification. Clean cover sealing surface and reinstall cover with RTV or new gasket.
9. Fill with non-synthetic GL-5 gear oil and Yukon LSD additive to the correct level.
