Yukon DuraGrip Positraction for GM 10.5 in. 14-Bolt Truck with 4.10 and Down Ratios (YDGGM14T-3-30-1)
The YDGGM14T-3-30-1 Yukon DuraGrip is a clutch-pack limited-slip positraction unit engineered for the GM 10.5 in. 14-bolt full-floating rear axle, one of the strongest factory rear differentials ever offered in a production GM truck. Compatible with 4.10 and numerically lower gear ratios and 30-spline full-float bolt-in axle shafts, the YDGGM14T-3-30-1 replaces the factory open differential carrier with a torque-biasing limited-slip unit that automatically transfers power to the wheel with the most traction. The nodular iron case, 4320 chrome-moly forged spider gears, and composite clutch pack deliver significantly improved durability and traction over the OEM open carrier. The YDGGM14T-3-30-1 fits a wide range of Chevrolet and GMC 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks, vans, and SUVs spanning multiple decades.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Grizzly Locker and a DuraGrip?
The Yukon Grizzly Locker is a full mechanical locker that locks both wheels together 100%, automatically disengaging in turns. The YDGGM14T-3-30-1 DuraGrip is a clutch-pack limited-slip positraction (LSD) unit that biases torque toward the wheel with traction while still allowing some speed differentiation. The DuraGrip provides better street manners and quieter operation, while the Grizzly Locker delivers maximum traction for dedicated off-road or drag racing use.
Will the YDGGM14T-3-30-1 work with my gear ratio?
The YDGGM14T-3-30-1 fits 4.10 and numerically lower gear ratios in the GM 10.5 in. 14-bolt truck. If your vehicle is equipped with a 4.56 or 4.88 gear ratio, a different carrier series is required. Consult Yukon Gear for the correct part number for your ratio.
Does the YDGGM14T-3-30-1 require a break-in period?
Yes. Allow approximately 500 miles of varied driving for the composite clutch packs to seat before sustained high-load or aggressive use. Avoid extended wheel spin during the break-in period.
What gear oil should I use?
Yukon recommends non-synthetic 80W-90 GL-5 gear oil combined with two bottles of Yukon LSD additive (part OILADD). Synthetic oil is not recommended, as it may cause clutch chatter or reduce clutch pack grip, leading to premature wear or noisy operation.
Does this fit both 2WD and 4WD GM trucks?
Yes. The GM 10.5 in. 14-bolt full-float rear axle was used in both 2WD and 4WD 3/4-ton and 1-ton GM trucks and vans. The YDGGM14T-3-30-1 fits the rear axle in both configurations, as long as the axle housing is the 10.5 in. 14-bolt unit and axle shafts are 30-spline.
Can the YDGGM14T-3-30-1 be rebuilt?
Yes. This unit is fully rebuildable. Replacement composite clutch kits (part YPKGM14T-PC-DG1) are available separately from Yukon Gear when the clutch packs eventually wear.
What does the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act mean for my purchase?
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, installing this aftermarket part does not void your vehicle's factory warranty unless the manufacturer can demonstrate the part caused the specific failure. Yukon backs the YDGGM14T-3-30-1 with a 1-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects for the original purchaser.
Does the YDGGM14T-3-30-1 require special bearings?
Standard factory carrier bearings are used. No special bearing upgrade is required for most installations in the GM 10.5 in. 14-bolt axle housing.
Installation Overview
- Lift and safely support the rear of the vehicle; remove the rear wheels and axle shaft retaining hardware.
- Drain the differential fluid and remove the rear differential cover (14 bolts).
- Remove the full-float axle shafts from the hub flanges.
- Remove the pinion shaft lock bolt; slide out the pinion shaft, spider gears, and side gears.
- Mark bearing cap positions, remove the caps, and extract the factory differential carrier.
- Transfer carrier bearings from the old carrier to the YDGGM14T-3-30-1 using a bearing press.
- Mount the ring gear onto the DuraGrip carrier; torque ring gear bolts to factory spec with thread-locking compound.
- Install the YDGGM14T-3-30-1 into the housing; reinstall bearing caps and set shims for correct backlash and bearing preload.
- Reinstall axle shafts, retaining hardware, and all fasteners to factory torque specifications.
- Clean the differential cover surface, apply RTV or a new gasket, reinstall the cover, and fill with non-synthetic 80W-90 GL-5 gear oil plus two bottles of LSD additive.
- Reinstall wheels, lower the vehicle, and test drive to verify smooth, quiet operation.

Differentials
Differentials distribute engine torque between drive wheels, allowing them to rotate at different speeds through corners while maintaining traction. Upgrading from a factory open differential to a limited-slip or locking differential is one of the most impactful drivetrain improvements you can make for towing, off-roading, drag racing, or any application where both wheels need to work together under load.Popular Differential UpgradesTop upgrades include Eaton Detroit Locker and Eaton Truetrac limited-slip units for GM, Ford, Dana, and Chrysler axles, ARB Air Lockers for Jeep and truck off-road applications, and OS Giken Super Lock LSD units for JDM performance platforms. Locker conversions for Dana 44 and Dana 60 front axles are essential for serious rock crawling, while Truetrac helical LSDs deliver traction improvements without aggressive locking behavior for street and tow applications. What is the difference between a locker and a limited-slip differential?A locking differential ...
