Installation Instructions
- Raise and support vehicle. Drain differential and remove cover, driveshaft, and axle shafts.
- Mark and remove bearing caps. Carefully remove the old carrier with its side bearing shims.
- Transfer the ring gear to the YDGGM8.2-3-28-1. Torque ring gear bolts to manufacturer spec.
- Press or install side bearings on the new carrier. Reinstall using original shims.
- Set backlash with a dial indicator (target 0.006 to 0.010 inch for GM 8.2).
- Verify carrier bearing preload and gear contact pattern with marking compound.
- Torque bearing caps to spec and recheck backlash.
- Clean and reseal the differential cover. Fill with GL-5 gear oil and LSD additive.
- Reinstall axle shafts and driveshaft. Check all torques.
- Perform break-in of 500 miles before extended high-performance use.
