Installation Instructions

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Drain the front differential oil completely.
  2. Remove the front driveshaft and front axle shafts to allow full access.
  3. Remove the differential cover and clean the housing mating surface.
  4. Mark and remove the carrier bearing caps. Record shim positions.
  5. Remove the carrier and old ring gear from the housing.
  6. Remove the pinion nut, companion flange, and extract the old pinion. Press off bearing races.
  7. Install new pinion bearing races from the master overhaul kit.
  8. Set correct pinion depth with shims using a Dana 30 depth gauge.
  9. Install new inner pinion bearing on the YG D30SR-456JK pinion. Install with new crush sleeve.
  10. Set pinion bearing preload by tightening the pinion nut incrementally until specification is met.
  11. Press the YG D30SR-456JK ring gear onto the carrier. Torque ring gear bolts to Dana spec.
  12. Install carrier with new carrier bearings. Adjust backlash to 0.005 to 0.009 inch.
  13. Verify gear contact pattern and adjust as required.
  14. Torque bearing caps. Install cover with new sealant and torque to spec.
  15. Reinstall all components, fill with correct gear oil, and road-test. Check for leaks at 50 miles.
