Installation Overview

  1. Drain the differential fluid and remove the axle shafts and differential cover.
  2. Remove the carrier assembly and note all existing shim locations and thicknesses.
  3. Press off old bearings from the carrier and pinion, noting the original shim stack.
  4. Install the new ring gear from the YG GM11.5-373 set onto the carrier using factory torque specifications and thread-locking compound.
  5. Install new pinion bearings and set pinion depth using a depth gauge or marking compound.
  6. Assemble with a new crush sleeve and tighten the pinion nut to achieve proper preload as measured with an inch-pound torque wrench.
  7. Install the carrier with ring gear, set backlash between 0.006 and 0.010 inch using side bearing shims.
  8. Verify gear contact pattern using marking compound; adjust shims until pattern is centered on drive and coast sides.
  9. Reinstall differential cover with RTV sealant, fill with the correct gear oil, and torque cover bolts to spec.
  10. Reinstall axle shafts and test for noise or vibration before returning vehicle to service.
