Installation Instructions

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Drain gear oil from the Dana 35 differential.
  2. Remove the axle shafts and mark the driveshaft-to-yoke orientation before unbolting.
  3. Remove the differential cover and clean the housing thoroughly.
  4. Measure and record existing ring gear backlash and pinion bearing preload for reference.
  5. Remove the bearing caps, differential carrier, and existing ring gear set.
  6. Press the old pinion bearing off the pinion shaft and install new bearings from the master install kit.
  7. Set pinion depth using shims and a dial indicator until the gear pattern is centered per Yukon specs.
  8. Install the new ring gear from the YG M35-456 set onto the carrier, torquing bolts in a cross pattern to spec.
  9. Set carrier bearing preload and adjust backlash to 0.006 to 0.010 inch using side bearing shims.
  10. Verify the gear contact pattern with marking compound; adjust as needed.
  11. Reinstall the cover with a quality RTV or gasket. Fill with the correct gear oil to the full mark.
