What makes the YK F9.75-CNV-K different from a standard Ford 9.75 master kit?
The YK F9.75-CNV-K is specifically engineered for 2008-2010 housings being fitted with 2011-and-newer ring and pinion sets, which use a different pinion bearing journal size. A standard kit for the 2008-2010 diff will not have the correct bearings for the newer gear design.

Does this kit include axle seals for Expedition IRS applications?
No. This kit does not include the 9.75 IRS CV axle seals (YMSF1005) or needle bearings (YB AX-009) used on 2003-and-newer Expeditions with independent rear suspension. Those parts must be purchased separately.

Does this kit cover the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act?
Yes. Yukon Gear and Axle's 1-year limited warranty covers manufacturer defects and is offered in accordance with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. This warranty does not void any existing vehicle warranty when the product is used as intended.

What is the break-in procedure after installing new ring and pinion gears?
After installation, avoid sustained highway speeds for the first 500 miles. Vary your speed and avoid heavy towing during break-in. Change the differential fluid after the first 500 miles to remove metal particles from the initial wear-in process.

What tools are needed to complete this installation?
You will need a pinion depth gauge or dial indicator, a bearing press, snap ring pliers, a torque wrench, a bearing puller, a seal driver set, and a micrometer for measuring shim thickness. A gear marking compound (included) is required to verify gear contact pattern.

Can I reuse the original crush sleeve?
No. A crush sleeve must always be replaced when the pinion nut is removed. The YK F9.75-CNV-K includes a new crush sleeve for this reason.

Is professional installation recommended?
Differential setup requires precision measuring and specific tools. Professional installation by a drivetrain shop is strongly recommended to ensure correct pinion depth, backlash, and bearing preload settings.

What differential fluid should I use after rebuilding with this kit?
Ford recommends a 75W-140 synthetic gear oil for the 9.75-inch differential. Check your owner's manual or axle tag for the specific friction modifier requirement if you have a limited-slip unit.

Installation Instructions

  1. Drain differential fluid and remove the differential cover. Clean all mating surfaces thoroughly.
  2. Remove the carrier assembly. Mark bearing caps before removal to ensure reinstallation in original orientation.
  3. Press off old carrier bearings using a bearing puller. Install new Timken carrier bearings using a bearing press.
  4. Remove the pinion yoke, pinion nut, and old crush sleeve. Drive out the pinion and remove pinion bearings.
  5. Press in new pinion bearing races. Press new pinion bearings onto the pinion shaft.
  6. Establish correct pinion depth using the included shims and a dial indicator. Verify with gear marking compound pattern.
  7. Install new crush sleeve on pinion shaft. Install pinion and yoke. Torque pinion nut to spec while checking rolling torque.
  8. Set carrier shims for proper backlash (0.006-0.010 in. typical) and side bearing preload. Torque bearing caps to spec.
  9. Apply thread locker to ring gear bolts. Torque ring gear bolts to factory specification.
  10. Verify gear contact pattern with marking compound. Adjust shims as needed until pattern is centered.
  11. Install new pinion seal using a seal driver. Apply RTV or use included gasket to seal differential cover.
  12. Fill with appropriate gear oil to specification. Recheck for leaks after first drive.
