The kit is designed around the 4.375-inch O.D. inner pinion bearing that Ford adopted for the Dana 80 starting with the 1998 model year, distinguishing YK D80-B from the earlier 4.125-inch-bearing kit. Installation Overview

  1. Drain gear oil and remove the differential cover; clean all mating surfaces.
  2. Remove the carrier assembly; inspect housing bore and bearing pockets for wear.
  3. Press out the existing pinion and remove all old bearings and races.
  4. Drive new Timken inner and outer pinion bearing races into the housing.
  5. Set pinion depth using the shims from the YK D80-B kit and a dial indicator.
  6. Install the crush sleeve and new inner pinion bearing; insert pinion into housing.
  7. Install the outer pinion bearing, oil slinger, and new pinion seal from the kit.
  8. Install yoke and tighten the new pinion nut to achieve correct pinion bearing preload.
  9. Press new Timken carrier bearings onto the carrier; lower carrier into housing.
  10. Adjust carrier shims to achieve factory-specified ring gear backlash.
  11. Coat ring gear teeth with marking compound; verify contact pattern and adjust as needed.
  12. Torque ring gear bolts with included thread locker to specification.
  13. Seal and reinstall the differential cover; refill with the appropriate gear oil.
