Installation Instructions
- Safely raise and support the vehicle. Remove the wheel and brake assembly on the side being serviced.
- Remove the axle shaft from the axle tube. For the Ford 9in, remove the carrier retaining bolts at the center section if necessary to withdraw the axle shaft.
- Use a slide hammer with an axle bearing puller adapter to extract the tapered axle bearing from the axle tube.
- Remove the old axle seal from the axle tube bore.
- Clean the axle tube bore thoroughly and inspect for wear or damage.
- Drive the new axle seal from the AK SET20 into the axle tube bore until fully seated, using a seal driver of appropriate diameter.
- Press or drive the new tapered axle bearing from the AK SET20 into the axle tube until fully seated.
- Lightly coat the axle shaft bearing journal with clean differential fluid. Carefully insert the axle shaft back through the tube without damaging the new seal.
- Reinstall the axle shaft retaining hardware. Reinstall brake assembly and wheel. Lower vehicle and verify rear differential fluid level.
