Four Inch Front Lift Spindles with Extended DOT Brake Lines for the Ram 1500 Two Wheel Drive
MaxTrac 702740 replaces both front steering knuckles on a two wheel drive Ram 1500 with a taller ductile iron spindle that raises the front of the truck four inches while the factory shocks, coil springs, control arms and ball joints stay in place. Each spindle is cast as a single piece and e-coated for corrosion protection, and the kit ships with the longer DOT approved front brake hoses needed to cover the extra travel.
Key Features
- Four inches of front lift from the spindle alone, with no change to spring or shock length
- Single piece ductile iron casting that replaces the factory steering knuckle
- E-coated finish for corrosion protection
- Longer DOT approved front brake hoses included so the factory lines are not stretched
- Factory ball joint nuts, wheel bearings, rotors and calipers are reused
- Clears up to a 35 inch tire on the correct wheel and backspacing combination
- Backed by a limited lifetime warranty
Fitment
| Years | Make | Model | Configuration |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2019-2024 | Ram | 1500 | Two wheel drive, six lug, current body |
Classic five lug models are not covered, and trucks built with factory twenty two inch wheels need the wheel bearings from a non twenty two inch truck before these spindles can be used. Four wheel drive trucks use a different knuckle and are not covered. MaxTrac recommends an eighteen by nine inch wheel with five and three quarter inch backspacing, and fender trimming may be needed on larger tires.

About MaxTrac Suspension
MaxTrac Suspension builds bolt on lift and lowering hardware for domestic trucks and SUVs, including cast lift spindles that raise ride height without altering spring rate or shock travel, so the factory suspension geometry and ride quality are retained.
FAQ
Will the factory shocks and springs still be used?Yes. The lift comes entirely from the taller spindle, so the original coil springs, struts and control arms stay on the truck.
Why can this not be fitted to a four wheel drive truck? The four wheel drive front end uses a knuckle with a hub bore and drive flange for the axle shaft. The two wheel drive casting has no provision for that, so the parts are not interchangeable.
Does the truck need a wheel alignment afterwards?Yes. Toe must be measured and set before the truck is driven, and all suspension fasteners should be re torqued after the first five hundred miles.
What happens on a truck with factory twenty two inch wheels? Those trucks use a wheel bearing with a larger outer diameter. The bearings from a truck without the twenty two inch wheel package are needed before installation.
Are longer brake hoses really necessary?Yes. Raising the knuckle increases the distance between the frame hard line and the caliper, and the supplied DOT approved hoses cover that extra length safely.
How big a tire will fit?Up to a 35 by 11.5 inch tire with the spindles alone. Trimming the fender liner may be needed for full clearance at lock.
Does the ABS system need any attention during the install? The wheel speed sensor is unbolted from the bearing and re routed with the supplied loom clamps, and the connector at the frame is refitted facing the other way to keep slack in the harness.
Does this work on the older Classic body Ram?No. The Classic five lug truck uses a different front end and is excluded.
Is a shop needed for this installation? It is a bolt on job of roughly three hours per the instructions, but the brake system has to be opened and bled, so a shop is the safer choice for most owners.
Installation Instructions
- Raise the front of the truck, support it under the frame rails on stands, and remove both front wheels.
- Working one side at a time, unbolt the outer tie rod at the spindle and separate it by striking the side of the spindle rather than the threads.
- Separate the ABS line clip from the brake line, unbolt the caliper and support it so it never hangs from the hose.
- Remove the rotor retainer screw and the rotor, then unbolt the ABS sensor and the wire guide bracket.
- Remove the three wheel bearing bolts, take off the bearing with the dust shield, then loosen the upper and lower ball joint nuts and break the taper free.
- Fit the new spindle onto the factory ball joints, torque the original nuts, then refit the bearing and dust shield.
- Re route the ABS harness with the supplied loom clamps and M6 hardware, reconnect the plug at the frame and refit the rotor.
- Fit the extended brake line at the frame first, let fluid run through, then attach it to the caliper with the supplied crush washers and the original banjo bolt.
- Secure the brake line and ABS line to the spindle neck with the remaining loom clamps, then torque the caliper bolts.
- Repeat on the opposite side, bleed the brake system, set the toe, and re torque all suspension fasteners after the first five hundred miles.
