Why a Turbo Blanket Makes a Real Difference
Every T25 and T28 turbo radiates significant heat from the turbine housing and hot side back housing into the engine bay. That radiant heat raises under-hood ambient temperatures, soaks into the intake piping, heats the air charge before it reaches the intercooler, and transfers into surrounding components including fuel lines, brake lines, wiring, and intake couplers.
A turbo blanket acts as a radiant heat barrier between the turbine housing and everything around it. By containing that heat, the exhaust gases in the turbine housing retain more energy. More thermal energy in the exhaust stream means the turbine wheel spins up faster at lower RPM — reducing turbo lag and delivering power sooner on street driving where you are not always at full throttle. At the same time, the cooler exterior surface protects every component in the surrounding area and gives you more thermal headroom when packaging intake piping, intercooler piping, or electronics near the turbo.
Internally Gated Design
This blanket is cut and fitted specifically for T25 and T28 turbos with an internal wastegate. Internal wastegate turbos have an actuator arm that protrudes from the compressor housing side and connects to the internal flap inside the turbine housing. A universal or externally gated blanket will not accommodate that actuator arm and will either fit poorly or interfere with wastegate operation. The correct geometry is built in to clear the internal actuator arm while still providing full coverage of the turbine and back housing.
