Do turbo blankets improve performance?

Turbo blankets reduce heat soak of the intake charge by limiting radiated heat in the engine bay, which can improve intercooler efficiency and lower post-intercooler air temperatures on vehicles with top-mount intercoolers. On track and performance applications, lower underhood temperatures between runs reduce heat-soak recovery time. The performance benefit is most noticeable on vehicles with crowded engine bays where the intake plumbing runs close to the turbocharger housing.

Are turbo blankets safe for street use?

Quality turbo blankets designed for automotive use are safe for street driving when properly installed. A blanket that fits correctly and is secured with the manufacturer-specified stainless steel lacing wire or hook-and-loop closures will not come loose under vibration. Blankets must be installed dry without oil contamination, as oil absorbed into the blanket fiber can create a fire risk. Always verify that no coolant or oil lines run directly against the blanket surface.
