Black Anodized 3.5 Inch Aluminum Short Antenna for M6 x 1.0 Non-Power Bases on the 1982-2002 Camaro and Firebird
A CNC machined 6061 aluminum stub that replaces the long factory mast on a third or fourth generation F-body. It is 3-1/2 inches long, black anodized, and threads onto an M6 x 1.0 male antenna base by hand in about five minutes with no modification. UMI is direct about the trade-off: this is an appearance modification and it is not intended to perform as well as a full length antenna.

UMI's product title and the installation sheet header both name the Camaro only, while UMI's own platform data and the dealer fitment table both include the 1982-2002 Pontiac Firebird. The governing criterion is the antenna base thread rather than the nameplate, so both cars are listed here and the thread qualifier is published alongside them.

UMI Performance designs and manufactures chassis and suspension parts at 509 Hemlock Street in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, using North American raw material, in-house laser cutting, CNC bending and fixture welding. The 2996 short antenna is one of the few appearance items in a catalogue that is otherwise chassis and suspension hardware, and it is machined at the same Philipsburg facility.
FAQ
Will it fit my Firebird even though the title says Camaro?Yes, if the base thread matches. UMI's title and install sheet header name the Camaro, but UMI's own platform data and the dealer fitment table both list the 1982-2002 Firebird as well. What actually decides fitment is the antenna base: UMI guarantees fitment on an M6 x 1.0 male, non-power base.
What if my car has a power antenna?Then this is the wrong part. UMI states plainly that it will not fit vehicles with power antenna. A power mast assembly is driven by a motor and does not present the M6 x 1.0 male stud this part threads onto.
How do I check the thread before I order?Unscrew the existing mast by hand or with an adjustable wrench and look at the stud left behind. It needs to be a 6 mm male thread with a 1.0 mm pitch. UMI's own wording is that it only guarantees fitment on an m6 x 1.0 male antenna base and that the buyer assumes responsibility for not verifying fitment before time of purchase.
Will my radio reception get worse?Expect it to. UMI is explicit that the item is not intended to perform as well as a full length antenna and that UMI Performance is not responsible for the resulting loss in radio reception, as the short antenna is an appearance modification.
