Frequently Asked Questions
What differentials does the YHC70006 fit?
The YHC70006 fits Dana 44 front differentials in 1978 and earlier GM half and three-quarter ton 4WD trucks and 1978-1992 Ford Bronco, F-150, and F-250 models with 19 spline front axle shafts.
How do I verify my spline count before ordering YHC70006?
Remove one front hub and count the splines on the outer axle stub shaft end. If you count 19 splines, the YHC70006 is the correct fit. The 30-spline version is YHC70005.
Can the YHC70006 be used with Stage-8 lock nuts?
No. The YHC70006 is not compatible with Stage-8 lock nut systems. Standard spindle nut configurations are required.
Will installing the YHC70006 void my factory warranty under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act?
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits a vehicle manufacturer from voiding your warranty solely because an aftermarket part was installed. The manufacturer must demonstrate the YHC70006 caused the specific failure in question.
What warranty does Yukon cover on the YHC70006?
Yukon provides a Limited Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects on the YHC70006.
Does the YHC70006 fit spin-free hub conversion kits?
Yes. The YHC70006 is compatible with Yukon YA WU-01 and YA WU-02 spin-free applications and includes 2.5mm spacers for proper fitment.
What is the advantage of Chrome-Moly internals over standard steel?
Chrome-Moly alloy provides higher tensile strength and better fatigue resistance under repeated high-torque cycling, making it well suited for rock crawling, trail driving, and heavy towing applications.
How many turns does it take to engage the YHC70006?
Only one-third of a turn of the all-steel low-profile bezel is required to go from fully disengaged to fully engaged, making transitions fast even with gloved hands.
Installation Instructions
- Raise and support the front of the vehicle on jack stands and remove the front wheels.
- Remove the existing locking or free-wheeling hubs by extracting the face retaining screws.
- Clean the spindle end and axle stub shaft thoroughly and inspect for wear.
- Verify 19-spline count on the stub shaft before proceeding with YHC70006 installation.
- If using a spin-free conversion, install the 2.5mm spacers included with the YHC70006 per the kit instructions.
- Thread the spindle nut onto the spindle and torque to the vehicle service manual specification.
- Slide the inner hub body onto the stub shaft splines and seat it fully.
- Install the retaining snap ring or clip to secure the inner body.
- Place the outer hub cap assembly over the inner body and fasten the retaining screws to specification.
- Repeat on the opposite side, reinstall wheels, and road-test in both 2WD and 4WD.
Differential Install Kits
Differential install kits supply all the hardware required to correctly set up a new ring-and-pinion gear set during a re-gear, including pinion bearings, carrier shims, pinion seal, crush sleeve, marking compound, and ring gear bolts. Buying a matched install kit ensures proper gear mesh, preload, and backlash settings that are critical to differential longevity and noise-free operation.Popular Differential Install Kit ApplicationsInstall kits are available for nearly every popular axle including Dana 30, Dana 44, Dana 60, GM 7.5-inch, GM 8.5-inch, GM 10.5-inch, Ford 8.8-inch, Ford 9-inch, and Chrysler 8.25-inch and 9.25-inch differentials. Yukon Gear, Motive Gear, and Richmond Gear are common brands trusted by professional builders for accurate preload specs.Do I need a master install kit or a standard install kit?A standard install kit covers the basic bearings, seal, shims, and hardware needed for most re-gears. A master install kit adds carrier bearings and races, making it the...
