Is the YA WU-07 hub conversion compatible with a lifted Jeep TJ running large tires?
The YA WU-07 is designed for use with lifted and modified TJ Wranglers as well as stock applications. The 4340 Chrome-Moly outer axle shafts are substantially stronger than the factory pieces and can handle the increased stress of large tires on lifted Jeeps. However, extreme CV axle angles on very heavily lifted trucks may affect axle longevity regardless of shaft material, so maintain reasonable lift heights for daily driving.
Installation Instructions
- Safely raise and support the front of the vehicle, then remove both front wheels.
- Remove the brake caliper and hang it from a secure point with wire to avoid brake line strain. Remove the brake rotor if replacing.
- Remove the front hub dust cap and snap ring if present, then unbolt and remove the factory unit bearing from the steering knuckle, sliding the unit bearing and stub axle out together.
- Clean the steering knuckle mating face completely and inspect for any cracks or damage before installing new components.
- Apply anti-seize to the knuckle-to-spindle interface, then install the YA WU-07 spindle onto the knuckle and torque to the values specified in the included instruction sheet.
- Install the dust shield per the instruction sheet. Press the new Timken bearing races into the hub assembly using a proper bearing race driver until each race is fully seated.
- Pack the Timken inner bearing with quality wheel bearing grease, install it into the hub and drive in the inner seal.
- Slide the assembled hub onto the spindle, install the outer bearing, and thread on the inner spindle nut. Set bearing preload per the instruction sheet specification, install the locking tab washer with the pin in a locking hole, then install and torque the outer nut.
- Press the wheel studs into the hub. Reinstall the brake rotor and caliper.
- Slide the Yukon 4340 Chrome-Moly outer axle shaft into the knuckle and axle housing, seating the Spicer 5-760X U-joint into the inner shaft correctly.
- Install the Yukon Hardcore locking hub assembly: install the spring seat, apply grease generously to the outer splines and all ramp surfaces, then seat the spring, spacer and hub body assembly. Install the retaining housing and large circlip, then attach the hub face with tabs aligned in the locked direction.
- Torque all fasteners per the instruction sheet. Check that the locking hub engages and disengages cleanly through its quarter-turn range before reinstalling the wheel.
- Repeat the entire procedure on the opposite side. Lower the vehicle, torque lug nuts to specification and perform a careful low-speed test drive before returning to normal use.
