Restore Steering Control on Classic 1975-1979 Ford F-Series and Bronco with the Skyjacker 8210

The Skyjacker 8210 is a Black MAX dual steering stabilizer kit engineered for 1975-1979 Ford F-100, F-150, F-250, and F-350 trucks, plus the 1978-1979 Ford Bronco in 4WD configuration. These classic Ford solid-axle trucks develop notorious front-end shimmy and highway wander when upgraded with larger tires or lift kits, and their aging steering linkage can no longer rely on a single worn factory damper to keep them on a straight line. The 8210 adds two Black MAX twin-tube cylinders with dedicated mounting hardware to deliver modern dual-cylinder damping to your vintage Ford build. Complete bolt-on kit with no modification required.

  • Dual twin-tube Black MAX cylinders with specialized compression and extension damping valving

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Skyjacker 8210?

The Skyjacker 8210 is a Black MAX dual steering stabilizer kit for 1975-1979 Ford F-100, F-150, F-250, F-350, and 1978-1979 Ford Bronco 4WD trucks. It installs two Black MAX twin-tube cylinders to reduce front-end shimmy and highway wander on these classic Ford solid-axle platforms.

Does the Skyjacker 8210 fit the 1978 or 1979 Ford Bronco?

Yes. The 1978 and 1979 Ford Bronco in 4WD configuration are specifically listed in the 8210 fitment. The Bronco shares the same front solid-axle and steering geometry as the F-150 and F-250 of the same era.

Is the Skyjacker 8210 compatible with a 1977 Ford F-150?

The 8210 is listed for 1975-1979 Ford F-150 models. A 1977 F-150 4WD falls within this year range and is compatible with the kit.

Can the Skyjacker 8210 be installed on a 1976 F-250 with a 3-inch lift?

Yes. The 8210 is compatible with both stock and moderately lifted 1975-1979 F-250 configurations. Its bolt-on bracket design accommodates the standard range of vintage Ford lift heights.

What causes shimmy on 1970s Ford F-Series trucks?

Shimmy on older Ford trucks is typically caused by a combination of worn steering linkage bushings, tired tie rod ends, and an inadequate factory stabilizer. Adding larger tires amplifies the problem significantly. The 8210 provides fresh dual-cylinder damping to help control vibration while allowing worn components to be inspected and replaced.

Does the Skyjacker 8210 work on a 1975 Ford F-100 with factory Dana 44 front axle?

Yes. The 1975 Ford F-100 with the factory Dana 44 solid front axle is included in the 8210 fitment. The kit is compatible with the standard front axle and steering configuration on all 1975-1979 F-100 4WD models.

How does the Skyjacker 8210 compare to a single steering stabilizer upgrade?

A single stabilizer replacement provides one-for-one damping improvement. The 8210 dual kit provides twice the damping force from two cylinders, which is essential for vintage Ford trucks running larger tires or suspension lifts where a single cylinder cannot control the additional front-end inputs.

What warranty is provided with the Skyjacker 8210?

The 8210 carries Skyjacker's standard limited manufacturer warranty against defects. Contact Skyjacker Suspensions for full warranty terms.

Installation Overview

  1. Chock the rear wheels, engage the parking brake, and center the steering wheel.
  2. Remove the factory steering stabilizer from its axle and tie rod mounting points.
  3. Press greased hourglass bushings into both stabilizer cylinder body eyes.
  4. Mount the center axle bracket to the front axle housing with the supplied U-bolts. Snug only.
  5. Install the passenger-side and driver-side tie rod brackets with U-bolts. Snug only.
  6. Install washers and poly stem bushings on each stabilizer shaft end. Connect to tie rod brackets. Tighten until bushing swell begins.
  7. Extend each stabilizer to half travel. Torque center axle U-bolts to 30 ft-lbs. Torque tie rod bracket U-bolts to 240 in-lbs.
  8. Cycle steering lock to lock. Confirm no binding. After the first 100 miles, re-check all hardware torque.
