Full Carbon Fiber Replacement Side Intake Fins for the Ferrari 488
These side intake fins replace the painted factory splitters that sit inside the side air intakes on the Ferrari 488 with fully exposed carbon fiber panels. Part 01.31.003 is laid up in the plain weave pattern used on Ferrari factory carbon accessories, and the forged carbon option gives a marbled, non directional pattern instead. Both versions are cured in an autoclave, finished in a high gloss PPG clear coat, and moulded from the original panels so the factory fastener points and locating tabs line up without modification.

The 488 GTB and 488 Spider share the same side air intake structure, so both body styles use the same pair of fins. The 488 Pista and 488 Pista Spider use a different side intake design and are outside the scope of this part, as are cars already fitted with an aftermarket side intake or quarter panel conversion.

FAQ
Is this sold as a pair or as a single fin?It is a matched pair. One left fin and one right fin are supplied so both side intakes can be finished at the same time.
Does this replace the factory panel or mount over it?It is a replacement. The painted factory fin comes off the car and the carbon panel takes its place in the same location.
Will the weave match the carbon trim already on my car?The woven option uses the plain weave pattern and gloss level found on Ferrari factory carbon accessories, so it sits alongside existing carbon trim without looking mismatched. The forged option is deliberately different in figure.
Is any drilling, trimming or bonding needed?No. The panels are moulded from the factory fins, so the mounting flanges, tabs and fastener bosses are reproduced in the original positions.
Are fasteners supplied with the fins?No. The factory fasteners are removed with the original panels and reused, which keeps the thread engagement and torque the same as before.
Do these fit the Pista?No. The Pista and Pista Spider use a different side intake design, so only the 488 GTB and 488 Spider are covered.
What is the practical difference between woven and forged carbon?Woven carbon shows a repeating pattern produced from carbon cloth. Forged carbon is compression moulded from chopped strand, which gives a random marbled figure across the surface.
Can the fins be painted or wrapped instead of left exposed?They arrive as finished clear coated carbon panels and are intended to be shown. Covering the weave removes the reason for fitting them.
How is the surface cared for once it is on the car?Wash with a pH neutral soap and protect the panels with a wax, sealant or clear film. Keep paint correction compounds off the clear coat over the weave.
Should a shop handle the installation?The panels come off and go back on with hand tools, but a body shop is worth using because the surrounding bodywork has to be protected and the panel aligned before the fasteners are tightened.
Installation Instructions
- Park on level ground, let the car cool, and work one side at a time so the opposite intake stays available as a reference.
- Protect the paint around the side intake with tape or a soft cover before any tool goes near the opening.
- Remove the fasteners holding the factory fin at its flange, working from the leading edge toward the rear.
- Release the locating tabs and lift the painted fin clear of the intake without twisting the surrounding panel.
- Transfer any factory clips or grommets to the carbon fin and confirm none are damaged.
- Dry fit the carbon fin and check that every tab, boss and fastener hole lines up before any hardware is tightened.
- Start all fasteners loosely, seat the panel evenly against the intake, then tighten gently so the laminate is not crushed.
- Repeat on the opposite side, then step back and compare both intakes for gap and alignment.
- Remove the masking, clean both panels, and inspect the fasteners again after the first short drive.
