Clutch Covers & Pressure Plates for All Builds

The clutch pressure plate cover, commonly called the clutch cover or pressure plate assembly, is the spring-loaded housing that clamps the clutch disc against the flywheel. Choosing the right pressure plate for your build determines how much torque your clutch system can hold and how the pedal feel translates to the driver.

Popular Upgrades

High-clamp-load pressure plates for LS, small-block Ford, and Mopar applications are the most popular upgrades for performance street and drag builds. Organic diaphragm pressure plates offer smooth engagement and a near-stock pedal feel suitable for daily-driven builds with moderate power increases. Performance twin-finger and multi-puck pressure plates are designed for race applications where maximum clamp load is needed to prevent clutch slip at high torque output.

What is the difference between OEM and performance pressure plates?

OEM pressure plates are engineered for stock power levels and prioritize light pedal effort and smooth engagement. Performance pressure plates use stiffer diaphragm springs or a higher finger count to increase clamp load, allowing them to hold more torque without slipping. The tradeoff is a firmer pedal that increases with the stage rating of the upgrade.

How do I know if my pressure plate is worn out?

A worn pressure plate typically shows up as clutch slippage under hard acceleration, a change in engagement point height, or a burning smell after aggressive use. Disassembly reveals worn diaphragm fingers, a heat-blued cover, or cracked springs. Replacing the pressure plate together with the disc and release bearing as a complete kit is recommended for the best result.
