CP Pistons Forged Piston and Ring Sets
Choose CP piston sets by the exact engine combination and machining plan. Selected applications include Honda and Acura B-, K-, H-, and F-series engines, Toyota 2JZ and 3S engines, Nissan SR, KA, RB, VQ, and VR engines, Subaru EJ257, Mitsubishi 4B11, BMW B58 and S58, Ford Coyote, and Dodge Hellcat engines.
Coverage varies by part number. Confirm the piston design, material, bore specification, compression height, wrist-pin dimensions, and supplied ring package. A piston described for a particular engine family is not automatically compatible with every cylinder head, crankshaft, or connecting rod used in that family.
Bore Size and Compression Ratio
This collection includes standard-bore and oversize listings for selected engines. Have the block inspected before selecting a bore size, and coordinate the purchase with the machine shop. The finished cylinder dimensions must follow the supplied piston specifications and required piston-to-wall clearance.
Advertised compression ratios assume a particular engine configuration. Actual compression depends on factors including combustion-chamber volume, piston crown volume, stroke, deck clearance, and head-gasket dimensions. Verify the complete combination rather than treating the ratio in a product title as guaranteed for every build.
Replacement Piston Rings
Find selected replacement ring packages identified by compatible CP piston numbers. Match the bore, ring thicknesses, groove dimensions, and ring design to the installed pistons. Bore diameter alone does not establish ring compatibility.
Pay close attention to quantity. Some listings supply rings for one cylinder, while others describe a different package. A ring-only listing does not include pistons. Confirm both the compatible piston number and the number of cylinders covered before ordering.
Wrist Pins and Wire Locks
The collection includes selected 9310 steel wrist pins in chamfered and non-chamfered configurations, along with application-specific wire locks. Compare pin diameter, length, wall thickness, end design, and compatibility with the piston and connecting rod.
A stronger or thicker pin is not automatically interchangeable with the original component. Pin fit, operating clearance, and retention must suit the assembly. Wire locks also require the correct dimensions and groove compatibility, so use the specified hardware rather than selecting by appearance.
Plan the Complete Rotating Assembly
Match the piston package to the crankshaft stroke, connecting rod length, cylinder head, camshaft, fuel, and intended use. Turbocharged, supercharged, and naturally aspirated combinations can require different piston designs and clearance decisions.
Compare our performance connecting rods when planning companion components, but verify dimensional compatibility before combining brands or series. Forged pistons alone do not establish a safe boost level or horsepower limit for the complete engine.
Before You Order CP Pistons
- Confirm the exact engine family, generation, and cylinder-head configuration.
- Match the CP manufacturer part number and supplied specification sheet.
- Coordinate bore size and machining requirements with your engine builder.
- Verify stroke, rod length, compression height, and wrist-pin dimensions.
- Calculate compression using the actual engine combination.
- Check piston, ring, pin, and lock quantities and package contents.
- Plan piston-to-wall, ring-gap, pin-fit, and piston-to-valve measurements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a CP piston-and-ring set include everything needed for a rebuild?
No. Confirm the exact package contents. Bearings, gaskets, connecting rods, machining, and other engine components are separate requirements unless expressly included.
Can I order oversize pistons before inspecting the block?
Have the machine shop inspect the cylinders first and determine a suitable machining plan. Then select the piston package and finish the bores to the required specifications.
Is the listed compression ratio exact for my engine?
Only if your build matches the assumptions behind that specification. Head volume, gasket dimensions, deck clearance, stroke, and piston design can change the final ratio.
Can I use factory rings on CP pistons?
Do not assume compatibility. Match the ring package to the exact CP piston and its groove specifications. Use the manufacturer’s recommended replacement part number.
Do new piston rings need their gaps checked?
Yes. CP-Carrillo instructs builders to verify ring end gaps. Requirements depend on the ring package, bore, and intended use, so follow the supplied instructions and application-specific guidance.
