How does the AMP Research PowerStep work?

The PowerStep uses a 12-volt electric motor and a gear-driven deployment arm connected to the vehicle door circuit. When any door opens, the step automatically extends in approximately one second. When all doors close, the step retracts to a position flush with the rocker panel. The power draw is minimal and the system includes automatic inhibit logic that prevents deployment above a programmed vehicle speed to protect the step from road damage during driving.

Do AMP Research running boards require drilling?

AMP Research PowerStep installation uses existing factory mounting holes or vehicle-specific brackets that clamp to the rocker panel without drilling on most supported truck and SUV platforms. The electrical connection requires routing a wire harness to the door jam power source, which is a plug-and-play connection on most applications. Installation typically takes two to four hours using basic hand tools and the included instructions.
