Why do exhaust hangers wear out?

Exhaust hangers are made of rubber to absorb vibration and allow for thermal expansion of the exhaust system. Over time, heat cycles, road chemicals, and ozone cause the rubber to crack and deteriorate. Worn hangers allow the exhaust to sag or contact underbody components, causing noise and potential damage.

Are exhaust hangers universal or vehicle-specific?

Both styles exist. Universal rubber hangers can be cut or adapted to fit most exhaust systems and work well for custom builds. Vehicle-specific hangers match the factory mounting points for a direct replacement. Either can be used depending on whether you are doing an OEM repair or a custom installation.
