Installation Instructions

Read all steps before beginning. This installation requires transmission removal and should be performed by a qualified technician. Always work on a cool engine with the battery disconnected.

• Step 1 - Gather tools and supplies: You will need a flywheel holding tool for the QR25DE or EJ25 engine, a torque wrench calibrated to at least 65 ft-lbs, new M10x1.25 flywheel-to-crank bolts, and Loctite medium-strength threadlocker (blue, #243 or equivalent).
• Step 2 - Disconnect the battery: Remove the negative terminal to prevent accidental starter engagement during service.
• Step 3 - Support the vehicle: Raise the vehicle on a proper lift or secure jack stands. Never work under a vehicle supported only by a floor jack.
• Step 4 - Remove the transmission: Follow the factory service manual for your application to disconnect the driveshaft or axles, shift linkage, clutch hydraulic line or cable, and all transmission mounts and crossmember bolts. Lower and remove the transmission.
• Step 5 - Remove the old clutch assembly: Lock the flywheel using the holding tool. Loosen the pressure plate bolts in a star/cross-hatch pattern to relieve spring tension gradually. Remove the pressure plate and clutch disc.
• Step 6 - Remove the OEM flywheel: With the holding tool still in place, remove the flywheel-to-crankshaft bolts. Note that some applications use torque-to-yield fasteners; consult the factory service manual. Remove the OEM flywheel.
• Step 7 - Clean the crankshaft flange: Inspect for burrs or scoring and clean the flange surface thoroughly with brake cleaner and a lint-free cloth. Confirm the locating dowel pin is seated correctly if present.
• Step 8 - Prepare fasteners with Loctite: Apply a controlled amount of Loctite medium-strength threadlocker to the threads of each new M10x1.25 flywheel bolt. Do not apply threadlocker to the bolt shank or mating surfaces.
• Step 9 - Mount the aluminum flywheel: Position the lightweight aluminum flywheel onto the crankshaft flange, aligning it with the locating dowel pin. Hand-thread all bolts to confirm proper engagement before torquing.
• Step 10 - Torque flywheel bolts: Using the flywheel holding tool, tighten all M10x1.25 bolts in a star/cross-hatch pattern in two stages: initial pass at 20 ft-lbs, then final pass at 65 ft-lbs. Do not exceed the specified torque value.
• Step 11 - Install Clutch Masters clutch kit: Install only a compatible Clutch Masters clutch kit. Mount the clutch disc on an alignment tool, position the pressure plate, and hand-start all pressure plate bolts. Torque pressure plate bolts (8x1.25mm) in a star/cross-hatch pattern to 20 ft-lbs. Remove the alignment tool.
• Step 12 - Reinstall transmission: Raise the transmission back into position, engaging the input shaft into the clutch disc hub. Reinstall all mounts, crossmember, shift linkage, hydraulic or cable clutch connection, and axles per factory torque specifications.
• Step 13 - Final verification: Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and verify correct clutch engagement and release before road use. Allow the proper clutch break-in period per Clutch Masters instructions and inspect for leaks before returning the vehicle to normal service.
