The FOX is the Performance Elite Series 2.5 Coilover Reservoir Shock Pair for the 2007-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, including the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited. Developed from FOX off-road race shocks and engineered for bolt-on truck fitment, the 883-06-164 delivers 2.5 to 3 inches of front lift with a remote reservoir design that separates shock oil from high-pressure nitrogen for consistent damping across rough terrain, graded dirt, and highway driving. The pair is sold as a front left and right set.
The DSC (Dual Speed Compression) adjuster built into each reservoir allows independent control of low-speed and high-speed compression without tools, letting the driver dial in ride quality for daily use or increase compression stiffness for towing and off-road runs. An upper control arm is required for installation at full 2.5 to 3 inch lift height.

FOX Factory has been manufacturing performance suspension components since 1974 and is one of the most recognized names in off-road racing and truck suspension. The Performance Elite Series was developed from FOX's Factory Race and off-road race programs, adapting race-proven damping technology into bolt-on truck applications. FOX shocks are used across desert racing, rock crawling, and truck performance builds at every level of competition.
What is the FOX 883-06-164?
The FOX 883-06-164 is a Performance Elite Series 2.5 Coilover Reservoir Shock Pair for the 2007-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. It provides 2.5 to 3 inches of front lift using a 2.5-inch hard-anodized aluminum shock body with a remote reservoir and DSC Dual Speed Compression adjuster, sold as a left and right front pair.
Does this coilover require an upper control arm?
Yes. This coilover requires an aftermarket upper control arm (UCA) to achieve the full 2.5 to 3 inch lift height on the 2007-2018 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 platform. The upper control arm provides the extended geometry needed at the lifted ride height. Without a UCA, the coilover cannot be installed at the full rated lift without binding the front suspension.
What does the DSC adjuster do on this coilover?
The DSC (Dual Speed Compression) adjuster on each reservoir allows independent adjustment of low-speed and high-speed compression damping. There are 10 low-speed settings and 12 high-speed settings, all adjustable without tools by turning a dial on the reservoir. This lets the driver soften the ride for daily highway driving or increase compression stiffness for towing or off-road use.
What years does this coilover fit?
This coilover fits 2007-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2007-2018 GMC Sierra 1500 across all trims, as well as the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited. It does not fit the 2019 and newer full redesign Silverado or Sierra 1500 platform.
How much front lift does this coilover provide?
This coilover provides 2.5 to 3 inches of front lift when installed with a compatible upper control arm. This allows for larger tire fitment and improved front end clearance for off-road use while maintaining drivability on the street.
Is this coilover fully serviceable?
Yes. FOX Performance Elite Series shocks are fully serviceable. The reservoirs, seals, and oil can be replaced or refreshed through FOX's service program. Regular service intervals are recommended for shocks used frequently off-road to maintain consistent damping performance over time.
What warranty does this coilover carry?
FOX provides a 1-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase. Retain proof of purchase for any warranty claims. Damage from abuse, racing, or improper installation is not covered.
Can this coilover be used on a stock-height truck?
No. This coilover is specifically designed as a lifted coilover application for the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 platform and requires an upper control arm and a 2.5 to 3 inch lift to install correctly. It is not a direct stock-height replacement shock for factory-height trucks.
Does the remote reservoir affect installation clearance?
The remote reservoir on each coilover requires a bracket for mounting to the truck frame or chassis. FOX includes reservoir mounting brackets with the 883-06-164. Confirm reservoir bracket clearance against any aftermarket skid plates, differential covers, or other chassis-mounted components before installation.
