HPX Front Pads for the Gen I and Gen II Dodge Viper's Demanding Brake System
The first and second-generation Dodge Viper's massive front brakes were built to manage the deceleration of a car producing over 400 horsepower with no traction control and minimal electronic intervention. Hawk Performance part HB194C.665 brings the HPX motorsports compound to the front axle of the 1992-2002 Dodge Viper, including the GTS coupe that debuted in 1996 and the RT/10 roadster through 2002, providing consistent bite and clean pedal modulation across the HPX compound's 100 to 700 degree F operating window. This is a motorsports-only compound not rated for street use.
Key Features
- HPX compound code "C" clean modulation and smooth initial bite for autocross and road racing
- Optimal temperature range: 100 to 600 degrees F operating ceiling 700 degrees F
- HB194C.665 validated for front axle fitment on 1992-2002 Dodge Viper and 1996 GTS coupe
- Also fits the 2000-2002 Dodge Viper RT/10 front caliper configuration
- Low torque output profile that supports progressive brake modulation on the unassisted Viper brake system

Frequently Asked Questions
Does HB194C.665 fit the Gen III Viper produced after 2008?
No. HB194C.665 is designed for the 1992-2002 first and second-generation Viper caliper configuration. The 2008-2010 Gen III and later Vipers use a different brake system requiring separate part numbers.
Is the front brake system on the 1992-2002 Viper power-assisted?
Yes. The first-generation Viper did include a brake booster on most configurations, though the braking feel is more direct than many other sports cars of the era. HB194C.665 works with the factory booster system.
What submodels of the Dodge Viper are covered by HB194C.665?
HB194C.665 covers the 1992-2002 Dodge Viper RT/10 and the GTS coupe from its 1996 introduction through 2002, all front axle positions.
Is the HPX compound appropriate for Viper track days without a dedicated race setup?
HPX requires reaching its 100 to 600 degree F optimal temperature range to perform as intended. Without adequate brake system warm-up, performance may be unpredictable. Dedicated track preparation is strongly recommended.
Can HB194C.665 be used with drilled or slotted rotors?
Yes. HPX pads are compatible with drilled and slotted iron rotors. Slotted rotors can help manage off-gassing and heat during sustained track use.
What brake fluid is recommended when using HB194C.665 at track temperatures?
Hawk recommends using DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 fluid with a high dry boiling point when running motorsports compounds to prevent brake fade from fluid vaporization.
Do the HB194C.665 pads include wear indicator clips?
No. HPX motorsports pad sets do not include wear sensor clips or audible wear indicators. Inspect pad thickness visually before each track session.
Is there a matching Hawk HPX rear pad for the 1992-2002 Viper?
Hawk Performance offers HPX compounds for the Viper rear axle as well. Contact your Hawk dealer with your specific model year to identify the correct rear HPX part number for the 1992-2002 Viper.
