Fix What Lowering Broke on Your Genesis Coupe Rear Suspension
When you drop the 2010-2016 Hyundai Genesis Coupe on coilovers or lowering springs, the factory rear lower control arms lose their ability to maintain proper alignment geometry. The IS-EL-021-PRO from ISR Performance solves that problem with a pair of billet-constructed, spherical-bearing rear lower control arms purpose-built for the BK1/BK2 chassis. Bolt them onto the OEM mounting points, dial in your rear alignment, and get back the planted, predictable handling the Genesis Coupe was built to deliver.
Key Features
- IS-EL-021-PRO Pro Series construction uses higher-grade materials, larger rod ends, added bracing, and Japanese spherical rod bearings compared to ISR's entry-level Street Series arms
- Rod end dust boots protect the spherical bearings from road debris, extending service life on street-driven vehicles
- Thicker wall tubing and added bracing give the IS-EL-021-PRO greater rigidity under lateral load compared to OEM stamped steel arms
- Bolt-in installation using factory mounting points, no cutting, welding, or drilling required
- Adjustable length design allows rear alignment correction after ride height changes, whether from coilovers, lowering springs, or worn OEM bushings
- Compatible with both the 2.0T and 3.8 engine variants across all BK1/BK2 Genesis Coupe trim levels from 2010 through 2016
- Sold as a pair, covering both driver and passenger rear lower positions

About ISR Performance
ISR Performance (formerly ISIS Performance) designs and manufactures adjustable suspension components for sport compact and enthusiast vehicles from their facility in the United States. Their product lineup is built around the idea that alignment correctability is as important as the suspension kit itself, particularly on lowered cars where factory arms have exhausted their adjustment range. The IS-EL-021-PRO is part of their Pro Series, which upgrades every critical component over the Street Series, including bearing grade, wall thickness, bracing, and rod end sizing.
FAQ
What does the ISR Performance IS-EL-021-PRO do that OEM arms cannot? The IS-EL-021-PRO rear lower control arms are length-adjustable, allowing you to correct rear alignment geometry after the Genesis Coupe has been lowered. Factory arms are fixed-length and cannot compensate for the geometry changes that occur when ride height is reduced, leading to incorrect toe and camber settings. The IS-EL-021-PRO restores your ability to align the rear axle properly.
Do the IS-EL-021-PRO arms fit the 2009 Genesis Coupe?ISR markets these as fitting 2009+ Genesis Coupe because that is when the BK1 chassis launched in some markets. In the US, the Genesis Coupe was sold as 2010-2016. The IS-EL-021-PRO is confirmed to fit all US-market 2010-2016 Hyundai Genesis Coupe models on the BK1/BK2 platform in both 2.0T and 3.8 configurations.
What is the difference between the ISR Pro Series and Street Series control arms? The Pro Series IS-EL-021-PRO uses Japanese-sourced spherical rod bearings, larger rod ends, rod end dust boots, thicker wall tubing, and additional bracing compared to ISR's entry-level Street Series. These upgrades improve load handling, longevity, and feel, making the Pro Series appropriate for both spirited street driving and occasional track days.
Will I need a professional alignment after installing the IS-EL-021-PRO?Yes. Installation of adjustable rear lower control arms requires a professional four-wheel alignment to set proper rear toe and to take full advantage of the adjustment range. Without an alignment, the arms provide no geometry benefit and improper toe settings will accelerate tire wear.
Are the IS-EL-021-PRO arms street legal?ISR Performance notes on their product page that this item is "legal only for use in competition vehicles which may never be registered, licensed, and/or used on public streets or highways." Review your local regulations before installing on a street-registered vehicle.
Do the IS-EL-021-PRO arms fit Genesis Coupe models with both 2.0T and 3.8 engines?Yes. The IS-EL-021-PRO fits all trim levels of the 2010-2016 Hyundai Genesis Coupe BK1/BK2 regardless of engine configuration, including 2.0T, 2.0T Premium, 2.0T R-Spec, 2.0T Track, 3.8, 3.8 Grand Touring, 3.8 R-Spec, 3.8 Track, and 3.8 Ultimate.
Can I install the IS-EL-021-PRO without removing the subframe? In most cases, yes. The IS-EL-021-PRO bolts directly to OEM mounting points and does not require subframe removal. Standard control arm replacement procedures apply, with the vehicle safely raised on jack stands. Always consult a qualified installer for your specific configuration.
What causes Genesis Coupe rear lower control arms to need replacement or upgrading? Two main scenarios: first, OEM rubber bushings wear out over time, particularly on higher-mileage or performance-driven cars, causing vague rear handling and alignment drift. Second, any ride height reduction via coilovers or lowering springs pushes the factory fixed-length arm past its ability to maintain proper geometry, requiring an adjustable replacement like the IS-EL-021-PRO to restore correct alignment settings.
Does the IS-EL-021-PRO require any special tools to install?Standard hand tools are sufficient for the bolt-in installation. A torque wrench is recommended to tighten fasteners to specification. A ball joint press or bushing tool is not needed since the IS-EL-021-PRO uses rod end bearings rather than pressed rubber bushings. An alignment rack is required after installation.
Is there a warranty on the ISR Performance IS-EL-021-PRO?ISR Performance stands behind their products with manufacturer support. For warranty claims, contact ISR Performance directly with your proof of purchase and vehicle information. Warranty coverage details are available on ISR's official website at isrperformance.com.
Installation Instructions
- Safely raise the vehicle and support it on jack stands. Remove the rear wheels for easier access to the lower control arm mounting points.
- With the suspension at ride height or on a jack under the hub, locate the rear lower control arm's inner and outer mounting bolts. Note their positions and torque before removal.
- Remove the inner chassis-side bolt first, then the outer knuckle-side bolt. Slide the OEM arm out of its mounting locations.
- Pre-adjust the IS-EL-021-PRO to approximately the same length as the OEM arm before installation. This gives you a starting point close to factory alignment and reduces the range of adjustment needed at the alignment rack.
- Insert the IS-EL-021-PRO into the inner chassis mount first, thread the bolt in finger-tight. Then align the outer rod end with the knuckle mount and thread that bolt in finger-tight.
- With both bolts in place, lower the vehicle to ride height (or simulate ride height with a jack under the hub). Torque inner and outer bolts to the OEM specification for your year and trim.
- Repeat for the opposite side. Double-check all fasteners before lowering the vehicle.
- Lower the vehicle fully and roll it forward and back several times to allow suspension components to settle.
- Take the vehicle to a qualified alignment shop immediately for a professional four-wheel alignment. Provide the shop with your target alignment specs for your driving use case.
