The 7106S is a universal 3 inch stainless steel ball and socket exhaust connection designed to provide a flex capable, leak free junction in 3 inch performance exhaust systems. Ball and socket connections are the professional solution to the vibration, thermal expansion, and minor misalignment challenges that rigid pipe joints create over time. The 7106S allows the two exhaust sections to articulate relative to each other, absorbing drivetrain movement and chassis flex without transmitting stress to adjacent welds or flanges.
Kooks uses ball and socket connections throughout their vehicle specific exhaust kits for precisely this reason. This connection gives fabricators and builders access to that same connection technology as a standalone universal component, so it can be integrated into custom builds or used as a replacement when an existing ball and socket joint wears out. T304 stainless construction ensures the joint holds up to the corrosive and thermal demands of a performance exhaust environment. Combined with the appropriate swivel seal clamp (sold separately), this connection creates a secure, serviceable connection point in any 3 inch system.

What is a ball and socket exhaust connection?
A ball and socket connection is a two part exhaust joint where one pipe end has a rounded ball profile that seats into a corresponding socket on the adjacent pipe. The design allows limited angular movement between the two pipe sections, absorbing vibration and thermal movement without rigid stress at the joint.
Why is a ball and socket connection better than a straight slip joint?
Ball and socket joints allow multi directional articulation, meaning they can handle movement in any plane rather than only axial movement. This makes them more effective at managing the combination of thermal expansion, engine torque movement, and road vibration that a performance exhaust system experiences.
What clamp is used with this connection?
The Kooks JI-K61003 3 inch swivel seal clamp is designed to retain the ball and socket joint of this connection. It is sold separately and is the recommended clamp for this connection.
Is this connection weld in or slip on?
This connection is a weld in component. One end is welded to each adjacent exhaust pipe section to create the articulating joint at that location.
What size exhaust pipe does this connection work with?
This connection is designed for 3 inch exhaust systems. Both mating pipes should be 3 inch tubing.
Will the ball and socket connection leak exhaust gases?
When properly clamped with the appropriate swivel seal clamp, this connection creates a sealed connection that does not leak exhaust gases. The articulating design maintains sealing even as the joint moves through its range of motion.
Can I use this connection anywhere in the exhaust system?
Yes. Ball and socket connections can be placed at any point in the exhaust path where a flexible joint is beneficial, including between headers and mid pipe, between mid pipe sections, or between mid pipe and muffler.
Is this connection stainless steel?
Yes. This connection is constructed from T304 stainless steel, providing corrosion resistance and durability in the high temperature exhaust environment.
How does this connection compare to a flex pipe connector?
Ball and socket connections typically provide a cleaner, more durable articulating joint than braided flex pipe. Flex pipe can crack over time from repeated movement, whereas the machined ball and socket interface maintains its articulation range without degrading.
Is this connection sold as a single unit?
Yes. This connection is sold as a single ball and socket connection. For a dual exhaust system, two units would be needed.

Fabrication parts and materials provide the raw components needed to build, repair, and modify custom exhaust systems, turbocharger plumbing, intercooler piping, fuel system lines, oil routing, and engine bay heat management on performance and competition vehicles. Stainless steel tubing, titanium tubing, aluminum charge piping, mandrel bends, pie cuts, flanges, merge collectors, V-band clamps, O2 sensor bungs, AN fittings, PTFE hose kits, braided fuel and oil lines, heat shields, and welding supplies are the backbone of any serious custom fabrication project. Professional fabricators, race team mechanics, and advanced DIY builders who want full control over exhaust routing, charge pipe layout, or fuel system plumbing choose raw fabrication materials rather than pre-bent kits because custom fabrication allows fitment solutions that no universal kit can accommodate. Brands including Vibrant Performance, Ticon Industries, Stainless Bros, Radium Engineering, Fragola, and DEI provide th...

Exhaust flanges are the bolted connection points where exhaust manifolds mate to downpipes, where sections of exhaust pipe join at catalytic converters and muffler inlets, and where aftermarket headers connect to factory or custom collector sections, making flange quality and correct material specification critical for maintaining leak-free exhaust connections under the extreme temperature cycling that performance exhaust systems experience. Flange warping and gasket failures at exhaust connection points are among the most common exhaust leak sources on both stock and modified vehicles, as the thermal expansion differences between the flange material and the connected pipe cause progressive face distortion over time that breaks the gasket seal. Performance exhaust builders use thick-cut mild steel, stainless steel, or titanium flanges in precise O.D. profiles matched to their pipe diameter to ensure the clamping surface remains flat through hundreds of heat cycles. This collection c...
