Installation Instructions

  1. Confirm MS302-08500 matches the Mustang II front suspension and 500 lb/in spring requirement.
  2. Measure and record the vehicle ride height from the ground to the center of each wheel well.
  3. Unbolt the front upper shock mounts from inside the engine bay.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle by the frame with jack stands on a stable surface.
  5. Remove the front wheels.
  6. Remove the sway-bar end links.
  7. Unbolt and remove the lower shock mounts and the original shocks.
  8. Remove the lower ball joint cotter pin.
  9. Loosen the lower ball joint castle nut without removing it.
  10. Separate the lower ball joint from the spindle with a ball-joint separator.
  11. Use a coil-spring compressor to remove tension from the lower control arm.
  12. Remove the lower ball joint nut and the spring.
  13. Thread the aluminum lock nut and spring-seat adjuster nut down to the last thread with the shoulder facing upward.
  14. Lubricate the shock threads with Permatex Anti-Seize lubricant.
  15. Install the optional thrust bearing kit, or lubricate and install the spring-seat washer when the kit is not used.
  16. Fully extend the piston rod.
  17. Install the washer and bushing, slide the spring onto the shock, and insert the assembly into the upper spring pocket.
  18. Install the upper bushing, washer, and nut. Do not fully tighten the nut at this stage.
  19. Align the spring pigtail with the upper spring-pocket recess when applicable.
  20. Face the adjustment knob toward the spindle.

  22. Reconnect and tighten the lower ball joint to the vehicle manufacturer's specification, then install a new cotter pin.
  23. Set the spring seat approximately 1.5-2 inches above the bottom-most thread as an initial factory ride height setting.
  24. Reinstall the sway-bar end links and front wheels.
  25. Lower the vehicle and bounce the suspension to seat the springs.
  26. Recheck ride height and raise the vehicle before making adjustments.
  27. Adjust ride height with a QA1 spanner wrench as needed, then tighten the lock nut against the spring-seat adjuster.
  28. Have a professional wheel alignment performed after the suspension changes.
  29. Use a floor jack, jack stands, ball-joint separator, QA1 spanner wrench T114W or T115W, SAE wrench and socket sets, coil-spring compressor, and Permatex Anti-Seize lubricant as needed.
