The HFX-5 begins as a gravity-cast aluminum face. After casting, the wheel is mounted to a flow forming drum, and heat is applied to the barrel section. Hydraulic rollers then stretch and compress the barrel material radially, elongating the grain structure along the axis of stress. This produces a barrel that is measurably denser, stronger, and lighter than a conventionally cast barrel of the same dimension.
