The clutch fork, also called the clutch release arm or throwout bearing fork, pivots on a ball stud to push the release bearing against the pressure plate fingers when the clutch pedal is depressed. It is a high-wear item on performance builds and should be inspected any time the transmission is out for a clutch job.

What causes a clutch fork to fail?

On stamped OEM forks, cracks typically initiate at stress points near the pivot socket under sustained torque load.

Can I replace just the clutch fork without replacing the full clutch?

Yes, a clutch fork can be replaced independently if the disc, pressure plate, and release bearing are in good condition. However, since the fork is only accessible with the transmission removed, most technicians recommend inspecting or replacing the complete clutch assembly at the same time to avoid a repeat R&R labor charge in the near future.
