Turbo Inlets aftermarket parts and performance accessories

Turbo Inlet Pipes & Intake Pipes

A turbo inlet pipe connects the air filter or airbox to the compressor inlet of the turbocharger, providing the unrestricted airflow path the compressor needs to spool efficiently. Upgrading from a corrugated OEM rubber inlet to a smooth-bore silicone or aluminum replacement reduces restriction and turbulence at the compressor inlet, which can improve spool response and reduce inlet restriction losses at high boost.

Popular Turbo Inlet Pipe Options

Popular turbo inlet pipe upgrades include smooth-bore silicone inlet hoses with integrally molded reducer sections for platforms with restrictive factory accordion inlets, mandrel-bent aluminum or stainless inlet pipes for custom air filter relocation, and larger-diameter reinforced silicone inlets for high-horsepower builds where the factory inlet diameter becomes a restriction. Popular platforms with well-supported turbo inlet upgrades include the Subaru WRX, Ford Focus ST and RS, Volkswagen GTI and Golf R, and BMW turbocharged inline-four platforms.

How much does a turbo inlet upgrade improve performance?

On platforms with heavily corrugated or undersized factory inlets, a smooth-bore upgrade can reduce inlet restriction measurably and improve spool response by reducing turbulence at the compressor eye. Power gains from an inlet alone are typically modest on stock or lightly modified vehicles, but the upgrade reduces stress on the compressor seal and improves consistency under repeated high-load pulls. The benefit is most significant on high-horsepower builds where inlet restriction is a compressor efficiency limiter.

Do turbo inlet pipes void the factory warranty?

Installing an aftermarket turbo inlet pipe may provide grounds for a dealer to deny warranty coverage on related powertrain components if the dealer determines the modification contributed to a failure. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer must show the modification caused the specific failure to deny coverage. Retaining the factory inlet and reinstalling it before warranty service visits eliminates the warranty exposure associated with this modification.
