Complete Twelve Millimetre Rear Control Arm Bolt Upgrade Kit for the 1978-1988 GM G-Body

This is the whole rear end in one box: eight 12 mm bolts, eight nylon insert lock nuts and washers, enough to replace the fasteners on all four rear control arms of a G-body at once. Doing every mount in one job means no mismatched hardware left in the car, and the bright zinc plating keeps the new fasteners serviceable years later.

Key Features

  • Complete kit covering all four rear control arms rather than one pair.
  • Eight 12 mm bolts and eight 12 mm nylon insert lock nuts with washers.
  • Larger diameter replacement for the factory rear control arm fasteners.
  • Bright zinc plated for corrosion resistance under the car.
  • Published by UMI for the 1978-1988 GM G-Body rear suspension.
  • Listed by UMI as a direct bolt-on upgrade.
  • Made in the USA by UMI Performance.

Fitment

Platform Application
GM G-Body, 1978-1988 Buick Regal 1978-1987; Chevrolet El Camino 1978-1987, Malibu 1978-1983, Monte Carlo 1978-1988; GMC Caballero 1978-1987; Oldsmobile Cutlass 1978-1988; Pontiac Bonneville 1982-1986, Grand Prix 1978-1987

This kit is a G-Body part only. Unlike UMI's 3001 pair kit, UMI does not publish any F-Body application for part 3002, so no Camaro or Firebird coverage is listed here.

One automated fitment feed extends this kit to 1978-1992. That range runs past the end of G-Body production and past UMI's own published coverage, so it is discarded.

About UMI Performance

UMI Performance designs and manufactures chassis and suspension parts at 509 Hemlock Street in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, using North American raw material, in-house laser cutting, CNC bending and fixture welding. The 3002 complete kit is the all four arms version of UMI's G-body rear control arm hardware, sitting one step above the 3001 kit that covers a single pair.

FAQ

What does complete mean in the name?

It means all four rear control arms. The kit carries eight bolts and eight nylon insert lock nuts, twice the content of UMI's 3001 pair kit, so both uppers and both lowers get new hardware in the same job.

Will this fit my Camaro?

No. UMI publishes part 3002 for the 1978-1988 G-Body only. Its 3001 kit is the one UMI also lists for the 1982-2002 F-Body, and even that covers a single pair of arms rather than all four.

Are the bolts class 10.9?

UMI's own page says only high grade for this kit. A dealer record for the same part number states class 10.9. Because those are two different sources making two different claims, this listing publishes UMI's wording and labels the 10.9 figure as the dealer's, rather than presenting it as a manufacturer specification.

How long are the bolts?

Not published. UMI gives the 12 mm diameter and the counts but no lengths or thread pitch, and no dealer record fills the gap. Measure the fasteners you are replacing if length matters.

Do I need to do all four arms at once?

Not strictly, but it is the point of buying this kit rather than the pair kit. Replacing every rear mount in one session means every fastener in the rear suspension is new, matched and torqued to the same figure.

What are the torque specifications for this kit?

UMI publishes none for this part number and no UMI installation sheet exists for it, so this listing does not print one. Use the applicable General Motors factory service information for your model year and the specific joint you are fastening. Torque figures printed on UMI sheets for other part numbers apply to those parts, not to this kit.

Is there a bushing or a control arm in the box?

No. The contents UMI publishes are bolts, nylon insert lock nuts and washers only. Control arms, bushings and shock hardware are separate parts.

How many washers come with it?

UMI lists washers but does not publish a count. Ask us to confirm against the current pack if the exact number matters to your build.

Does the 1978-1992 range some sites show apply here?

No. That range comes from an automated feed and it runs past the end of G-Body production as well as past UMI's own published coverage. The range published here is UMI's, 1978-1988.

Which UMI warranty applies, the two year policy or the text printed on the instruction sheet?

They are two different documents. UMI's policies page publishes a two year limited warranty to the original purchaser against defects in materials and workmanship, with exclusions for normal wear on bushings and bearings, improper installation, alteration and exceeding the design limits of the part. The disclaimer printed on UMI's installation sheets is narrower and says parts are warranted to be free of defect at the time of purchase, with remedy limited to replacement. Read the policies page as the customer facing warranty and the sheet as the in-box legal notice. Neither one is a Black Ops Auto Works warranty.

Installation Instructions

  1. Support the rear of the vehicle safely with the axle supported so the control arms stay near their normal position.
  2. Work on one arm at a time, and on one fastener at a time within that arm, so nothing loses its location in the mount.
  3. Remove each original bolt, clean the mount and the bushing sleeve, and inspect the mount for elongation before fitting new hardware.
  4. Fit each 12 mm bolt with a washer and a new nylon insert lock nut, leaving everything finger tight until all four arms are done.
  5. Lower the car to ride height so every bushing is clamped in its normal loaded position before final tightening.
  6. Tighten to the figures in the applicable General Motors factory service information for your model year, because UMI publishes no torque value and no installation sheet for this kit.
  7. Recheck all eight fasteners after the first drive and again after the first few hundred miles.

UMI publishes no installation sheet for part 3002. The steps above are a safe fitting sequence for replacement hardware, not a UMI procedure, and they do not replace GM factory service information or the instructions supplied with any aftermarket control arms.
