Turbo install kits provide the oil feed and drain lines, coolant supply and return lines, mounting hardware, gaskets, and fittings needed to complete a turbocharger installation without sourcing individual components separately. Using a purpose-built install kit ensures correct oil supply restriction, proper drain slope, and leak-free connections at every turbocharger port.

What Is Included in a Turbo Install Kit

A complete turbo install kit typically includes a stainless steel braided oil feed line with an inline restrictor fitting sized for the turbocharger's journal or ball bearing type, a larger-diameter oil drain line with a heat-resistant silicone section, coolant supply and return lines for water-cooled turbochargers, a set of V-band or flange gaskets for the turbine inlet and outlet, and any required O-rings or copper crush washers for the turbocharger oil ports. Some kits include a pre-lubrication tool for filling the center housing before first startup.

Why is the oil feed restrictor important?

The oil feed restrictor limits the volume of oil supplied to the turbocharger's center bearing housing to the correct flow rate. Ball bearing turbochargers require less oil flow than journal bearing units, and too much oil pressure at the center housing overwhelms the shaft seals, causing oil to migrate into the compressor and turbine housings. The restrictor orifice diameter is matched to the turbocharger bearing type and must be correct to prevent seal failure and oil burning.

Can I reuse factory oil and coolant lines on a replacement turbocharger?

Factory oil and coolant lines can sometimes be reused if they are in good condition and the replacement turbocharger uses the same port configuration as the original. However, high-mileage rubber sections in factory coolant lines and braided lines that have been heat-soaked repeatedly are best replaced as part of a turbocharger service. Using a new install kit eliminates the risk of line failure shortly after a costly turbo replacement job.
